I haven't played TT since 3rd/4th Ed, how are the big guys nowadays? I know the GW ones used to take up 4 squares (I still have 2 rat ogres like this). Are the other companies pushing fantasy football figs making them to fit in just 1 square of the pitch or at least close? How do people use bigs these days, fit them on smaller bases?
I have lots of questions concerning minis after unearthing my old collection to prep for an upcoming tournament and attempt to get in a league of some sort. And to my surprise of have many more teams that what I remember. Nice.

Good work! Impact do some cracking 30mm bases - I would totally recommend picking up an order of them. They're amazing

Re: Big Guyz
If anything, big guys got bigger. Some of the 5th ed. GW human sized models are bigger then a 2nd ed. ogre.
Just make or buy a pitch with 30 or 40 mm squares

Re: Big Guyz
Depends a bit on the company (some BG are quite big), but since now they're supposed to occupy only one square, we try to fit them in a 25/30mm base.huff wrote:(...)I know the GW ones used to take up 4 squares (I still have 2 rat ogres like this). You can obviously go bigger if the 30mm if completely out of question, but try keeping in mind that they actually only occupy one square!
As mentioned by Shteve, there are a few companies (such as Impact!), that sell those round 30mm bases, and that's probably the best way to ensure the minis 'fit' in the pitch.
Oh, and welcome back to the addiction!

Re: Big Guyz
Hi Huff,
Impact! created a 30mm flat round base specifically to work with Big Guys for Blood Bowl. We allow them to be sold to our competitors as well so it now pretty standard to see Big Guy figures from Willy, Gaspez and Greebo now come with Impact!'s 30mm round bases.
However if you want to use an older figure or a GW one ... we sell packs of 30mm rounds at a pretty low price.

Re: Big Guyz
My big guys go on 30mm round bases, unless the overhang is too great.
If it is, they go on a 40mm round base and overhang the square. This isn't such an issue as it may sound; the squares are 30mm and the majority of mini's go on 25mm bases, so models around/next to a big base will still be fully inside their own square.
40mm square bases, like GW used to send out with big guys, are a pain in the arse.

Re: Big Guyz
I'll add my vote to Impact's great 30mm bases for all the BG that fit.
I have a few on a 40mm round which is fine in nearly every scenario as long at the BG himself doesn't have too many overhanging limbs (one of my regular opponents plays with an underworld troll - tail, claw, arms and tentacles ALL overhang the edge of a 40mm base and it's a nightmare moving players near or around him!)

Re: Big Guyz
Thanks for all the feedback guys. i saw those Pitches with the bigger squares, anybody know the size of the original 3rd ed field (of the squares that is).
.
.
And im still trying to decide exactly what figs I want for a couple tournament teams and if any of them are available via Impact! I will be ordering what I can through them. And at the minimum a couple smaller bases for these OG Rat Ogres I still have.GalakStarscraper wrote:Tom @ Impact!

Re: Big Guyz
i, at one point, had to take my early big guys(mostly 2nd ed, and conversions) off of the old square gw bases and i put them(after repainting any damaged paint on the feet areas) on gw 40mm bases. this sucks because the impact! 30mm bases are just about perfact. but with hundreds od bb/ff figures waiting for my attention, i can't see me changing from the 40mm to the 30mm anytime soon. its only a handfull of older big guys, but i hate pulling bases off.
now, if someone wants to do the elbow work, i can buy the bases

Re: Big Guyz
That’s very true, if you have just 1 big guy then it’s not too much of an issue if the rest of the team is on small bases.JT-Y wrote:My big guys go on 30mm round bases, unless the overhang is too great.

40mm square bases, like GW used to send out with big guys, are a pain in the arse.
But if you have multiple models on 40mm GW bases then it is hugely difficult to manage as they will constantly overlap. I did a lizardman team and gave all the saurus 40mm bases, they looked great but were very difficult to play games with.

Re: Big Guyz
True that.
Were I to do Ogres, CD's or Pact I'd make damn sure the big models fit on 30mm bases.
