Got it back
My house mate Caleb clambered over the fence and almost got stuck until I found a pile of bricks in the garden for him to make a big step out of.

Managed to varnish my little fella last night. After a coat of gloss and a coat of matt he now looks exactly the same as he did after I finished painting. He is however covered by a nice invisible layer of protection
