It seems that they are of very little importance to the team as a whole.. and that particular design ...I'd suggest replacing them with yellow smilies or stuff like this https://www.google.dk/search?q=hipster+ ... 0&bih=1099

We are drifting away from topic here.

Let us all return to the viewing of nicely painted teams.

If you cannot stall out for an 8 turn drive to score with dwarves then you need to go and play canasta with your dad..if you can find him.

Look maybe he is saying that he used to like National Socialism in 1921, Hitler's early work before he became, you know, mainstream. It was a bad call, all this stuff about eagles and military insignia. Its a wood elf team with, you know leaves on the ball. As to the eagles if you look there are critters on every base. I for one am not going to call anybody a racist on the basis of one flag, no matter what the associations of that flag are. This is an international forum and occasionally somebody posts or says something that causes offence elsewhere. Hipsters in Quebec may wear swastikas, seems odd to me cos its skinheads and ww2 re-enactors round here, but what do I know.

There was a guy when I was in my last year at college (1985) who turned up in a black SS full dress uniform, He also had a Feldshemjager uniform as well as well as several others. He was dedicated to his "look" and the only time I saw him out of it he was coming out of the shower. (I lived in the same digs for a term). Lovely guy, not in any way a nazi but loved the tailoring. Those uniforms were perfect replicas down to the tiniest detail, must have cost a fortune. Go figure. All the college did was call him in and get him to agree to drop the armband, which he agreed to.

Point I am making is that mrb3 posted up a team of toys and is being flamed by people who are polishing their own "right on" credentials. You can be wrong and a nice guy, you can be right and a dick. You can be both at different times.

This is getting out of hand.

*edited* especially in a thread titled "Show us your teams".

There are plenty of places on the web where these things can be discussed (most of them not very nice places unfortunately) And I come here to get away from all that.

And make no mistake: calling a statement a historical overview doesn't make it less inflammatory or political the way things are in the world. Neither does putting smilies after a statement. This was true in 2003 when the rules for this site was written, and it is still holds true.

I personally find the use of swastikas juvenile and in bad taste on a bb-team, but at least they are part of what this site is about. *edited* I hope mods will remove the posts following the pics. DONE

Please let's talk fantasy football.

(sorry about the rant - I'll go back to my lurking now)

Digger Goreman wrote:More to the point of the pics of the team: polite asking why the inclusion of a "questionable" possible symbol of oppression is fair. Loosing your cool isn't.... The man cited his reasoning and doesn't seem inclined to hate anyone.... Parody of hipsters? I guess.... Though, if being my friend, I would have pm'ed him with a, "well, ya know this will probably set certain people off..." Believe me, living in Georgia, USA, we have a lot of confederate flags flitting around.... Personally I am more offended with him playing elves than anything else.... :-?
Thanks Goreman. You're right on the spot !

The whole point is to make the team look evil and be immediately disliked... On the pre-game coin toss, I always argue they are the red side of the coin (an not blue) because they are the bigger evil on field... even against chaos. They are an attempt to be the most disliked team possible... being wood elves helps lots in this regard.

This team has played a couple of seasons already and no opponent wanted to lynch me. Their first reaction always was like : "are those swatiskas?"... followed by a twisted look of satisfaction realizing all the abuse it will be okay to do on the team.

Those are evil wood elf hipsters created to be the most hated team possible (and obviously, it works !). A political statement is the last thing it is !

Now, can we carry on looking at cool painted minis ?

Just a point on this, then I'll return you to your regularly scheduled thread.

If you see something that you think might cross the lines of the forum, don't just assume that a Mod will see it - there are to many threads for us to read them all (I stopped reading this one when I realised that rather than providing inspiration it just wanted me to pack away all my models).
Either PM a/some Mods or use the "Report" button (the Exclamation mark button at the bottom of each post).

Right, I'm off to try to dig out my old 1st ed cardboard figures, which are painted better than I'll ever do!

This was my first "regular" BB team, painted way bad when I'm not sure (2004-2006?). I used only GW plastics and, not wanting to spend too much in a game I barely starting, I shared a box of ogres to build the team trolls.

Group shot:

Certainly not my highest standard of painting, even for the time, and I always hated painting plastics (weight, not enough detail, etc) so they ended up a bit of a rush job and the ogres/trolls came out a bit of a mess. Still, quite happy with some parts of the end result:
- the cheerleader conversion
- the coach
- the detail of the goblin with the gold teeth
- the bag of bombs on the bombardier
- the skin colour (lifecolor medium green) which became my template for goblin skin tones, avoiding the classic bright green.

Close-up shots in my own thread.
