I have to agree with you on both counts. Great looking miniatures that I will never buy due to their size.

Ook it's time for a little tutorial about the skin! First of all I use mostly gw paints with old names, but for the highlights I use beige and white andrea color; all the paints are thinned at 50% with water to have smooth transitions and I use tintoretto brushes 335 number 4 (martora kolinsky short hair) Three type of skins are present in that team:

Thrall skin: the warmer one, has a base of gw graveyard heart + gw elf flesh; shades are made adding more and more scab red and graveyard; lights adding beige and a final touch of white.

Vampire skin: colder than previous has a base of gw codex grey + elf flesh; shades with gw the fang; highlights with white

Vampiress skin: the colder one has a base of fortress grey (a bluish gray) + elf flesh; shades with codex gray; lights with white. The have bluish-black lips to broken all this white. Hope it helps!

Size is only a matter when you play against a smaller team.

When you play willy against willy (this sounds soooo wrong ) it is not an issue any more.

I have this team and they aren't particularly oversized. The thralls are half a head over my Wood Elves and a bit broader, that seems appropriate given Elves are weedy.

I've seen the evidence that some Willy models are huge (Chaos Warriors...) but honestly these don't seem to have that problem at all.
