if anyone has a concern about regen you can always house rule 3+ regen with survivors going to KO box
normally it's a 1/2 cahnce of surviving and being able to be fielded again
it becomes 2/3 chance of surviving and 1/3 chance of being back on the field next drive
keeps regen up with the extra survival rate of multiple apoths but still keeps them off the field, kinda balenced again

I'm glad that there are people out there willing to try new things with their Blood Bowl. Too many people just blindly follow the official version without checking whether it fits their local needs.
We had a pitiful three player die in the 32 games last season but it feels about right. A fatality should be a special occasion and not something that happens all the time. I personally love blood and but it's hard to care about your team when you have to replace half of them because they're in body bags at the end of the game.
I completely revamped the Serious Injuries to make things more interesting. Players can receive a wide array of possible injuries and it's a more realistic alternative to the mega-death Bowl.

While in the real, modern world more death and injuries leads to safer play, in a medieval, fantasy game more death and injuries lead to better ratings.
In our modern age, we have TV, video games, and more easily accessable theater for entertainmet. In more ancient times there was no TV, video games, and few could afford the theater. We have plenty of ways to simulate dangerous activities without risking many real lives. In ancient times, about all they had was reality entertainment. Not to mention that they lived in more violent times...at least the more "hands-on" type of viiolence.
Think about Blood Bowl as the ancient Roman colleseum. Did they try to find a safer way to hold their gladiator games to reduce death and injury? Quite the contrary. They tried to find new and interesting ways to make it even more violent like setting wild, hungry predators loose in the arena. Pitting unarmed, and sometimes bound people into the arena with hungry lions, and tigers, and bears, OH MY!
The more blood spilled in the colleseum, the more spectacular and numerous the deaths, the better. Do you really think Blood Bowl fans would do things much different than the good ole Romans? I think not.
Hey! I just had an idea! Putting wild, hungry predators on the Blood Bowl field controlled by a thrid player? Spiked death pits scattered about the field? Replacing the ball with a live peasant...the team that manages to bring the peasant to the end zone ALIVE scores (teams that think they can't score will just kill him to keep their opponent from scoring)? Peasants tied to posts at each end zone...the object is to kill your opponent's peasant before they kills your's...kinda like a morbid version of "Capture the Flag"?

I have thought of something like that not in the gladiatorial sense but for BB7s - illegal matches held in dog duel dens (spikes, chains), abandoned surface mines (holes, 3-4 rocks to carry and throw (maximum number of squares equal to your ST, roll under your AG to hit, straight Injury, while carrying a rock you're not able to use any skills or traits and MA is limited to your ST (if lower), when blocked successfully the rock drops on you), etc.
It occured me it would be fun to have additions to the board such as beasts (I was thinking having them tied to the corners of the board. If anyone would end up in one of the 3 fields adjacent to them, he would have to roll under his AG to avoid an Injury (or maybe an Armour roll with, let's say, +2 (Claw) and then a subsequent Injury roll). If pushed or otherwise end up in the corner field with the beast, roll straight Injury. I don't think it would be that fun for a third player.)

Oh, it would be fun for the third player. When I run Dungeon Bowl, I have a third player to play monsters in the dungeon. The fun thing about being the third player is that your only goal is to trash the other teams. You don't have to worry about scoring touchdowns, and you don't have to worry about your players getting injured or killed. It's a very relaxing and fun role to play.

Well I am one of those who like the idea of removing the kills from bloodbowl - after all, it's asports game; if I still wanted to kill I had sticked to WH fantasy battle.
Whenever I play a game among good friends, we always use a modified casualty and injury table that excludes the death of players. Feels a lot better, after all evwen the opposing coach is a friend of mine and I don't want to kill his players.
It REALLY feels a lot better.
And regarding long term effects I cannot say that the more fragile teams are dominating the league. We play a variety of teams (welfs, delfs, chaos, dwarfs, lizard, ogre, skaven) and no, it's not that those AV 7 teams become that superior. They still having their problems keeping their players on the field during the game, and we like the idea of winning against those teams by bashing them up during the game instead of relying on the damage they suffered in their previous game.
So: it depends on what ypu want to play, we decided to play less bloody and it's still (or better: and due to that it's) a very fine game.
