Black... always black. I used to colour code, but don't anymore.

Martynq: Green for line elves? What the hell, how're you gonna tell them apart from the blockers? ;)

Thanks for the input everyone. It seems to be an even 50-50 split between leaving the bases black or painting them Goblin Green.

I was surprised at how many people use Goblin Green! It just seems too dark compared to the colours used by the GW painters in WD. Do you think the photographs are lighter somehow?

Thanks to bo for the suggestion of mixing yellow with green to get a lighter shade but I dislike mixing colours too much because I paint sporadically and so one time the paint might look right, the next time it won't.

So, some more questions:

1. If you use Goblin Green, how do you get a smooth finish? As you can see from my figures (http://www.talkbloodbowl.com/phpBB2/vie ... hp?t=12260) the edges of the bases tend to be rough and bumpy. Is this because the paint is too thick?

2. If you use black, do you paint the base or leave them the original black.

3. Do you all varnish the edge of the base? Underneath? If not, how do you prevent the edge of the paint peeling?

Thanks again for the input, guys.

@Raven
1. I use a little water to paint it smoother
3. I never had the paint peeled of of a plastic base, it only happens with me with metal figs

Watering it down should help.
A paint on varnish may make it look smoother as well.

well, tha bases of my teams are always different... usually I use green, but different tones of green: a litle dark for the 'dark' teams (dark elf, skaven, undead) sometimes black(chaos, some humans) sometimes brow(khemri, norse, amazon)

see my pictures and you understand.
