i Don't think it's a case of growing older but more a case of re-learning and finding different techniques to those you used before. I have had a few breaks from painting over the last 15 years and sometimes haven't painted for up to 3 years. Each time I have got back into painting I have felt that the techniques I find were better than before.Oxinotl wrote:It sounds like you used to, but stopped for some reason. I myself have taken breaks from the hobby for long periods, and it takes some time to get 'back in the game' so to say. However, it is amazing that your skill can actually improve without touching a brush, just by growing older.
Good luck,

Of course, sometimes those are effects you want.narkotic wrote:Exactly, formerly I always used drybrushing but it gives a dusty, dirty look to the minis. Now I'll abandon that and go for highlightning. I'm also not sure I want to use inks as they also make the paintjon look dirty/unclean.
I've only recently discovered the use of heavily thinned out inks to soften highlights.
