We use the IP rule and it is rarely called. The threat of IP makes everyone remember to move their turn marker. We also use the 4 min rule, I think that it keeps the game moving along. I used to play aganst someone who would take 10 mnutes per turn without a timer so I'm reluctant to play without it. Our league also ran a pub league team side league that used 2 minute turns, that was great fun.

I have always played with IP so I was wondering if leagues without it have any problems about forgetting to move the turn marker.

We have IP in our league but its quite loosely enforced. As for my own enforcement of IP I tend to give newbies quite some leeway and also in most games I give the other coach a warning or two first before starting to call for IP .This gives a better environment around the game and avoids harsh feelings (missing the critical RR for a TD for example). But whenever I meet a person who argues alot about the rules or tries to bend them I call him on IP whenever I get the chance.

To my big regret we don't use the 4min rule in our league. I like my games to last around 2 hours and the 4min rule makes that a reality. At the moment most of our games last around 4 hours due to people thinking for nearly 10min before finishing their turns. I prefer a less organized game where situations arises due to lack of time. Also it puts more pressure on the coaches to come up with a play in less time which I think is a valid part of the game. Newbies can always be given a few more minutes to compensate, but on general I find the 4min rule a good thing.

We never call IP. We just remind each other to move it if we forget. No big deal. All of the local tourneys that I know of say in the rules that IP will NOT be called. It's a good sportmanship rule.

We don't have a 4 minute rule as our games are for commrodery. It's one of my biggest worrys as a new player at tourneys, not to take too much time.
