Thanks for that Meph. dMephiston wrote:Its 2 players with one skill after each game (2 skilled in second and 4 in the thrid). No player can be given two skills and they must be picked before the tourney and noted on the roster you hand in.
I'm taking pro elves to this one....its the only team I'll have painted!

My experiment with Woodies failed spectacularly v Evil Trev in a friendly at the wkd. Lost 1 v 3 against his DEs
I put strip Ball on a WD and NoS on a Catcher
Mind you the ability to Leap into cages got the better of me and it was with gay abandon that the WDs landed on their ar*e in the middle of a melee many a time
So, Pro Elfs then

NOS is a terrible skill for a tournie wood elf team.
Tournie wood elf teams (in my experience) take:
Strip Ball, Frenzy or Tackle on WDs.
Side Step, Block on Catchers.
Kick, Block, Dodge on Linos.
Accurate, Leader on Throwers.

... or the wide zones. You can actually put the Blitzers in front of the "OLB" protecting them rather than behind, and protect catchers in the WZ that way. It's suicide to do that with other teams, but provided you're not facing Grab, you can always choose where to get pushed. Maybe don't do this if the extra 2 assists make the difference to 3 dice (like if there's a non-Mino Big Guy)... unless you want that Big Guy stranded in the wide zone and are willing to give up a knockdown for it.It's all about making things happen from the secondary.
Code: Select all
Normally you see...
-- -- -- --|LoS
-- -- XX --|
-- XX -- --|
But Pro Elves with Blitzers on sideline can...
-- -- -- --|
-- BL -- --|LE
-- -- CA --|
... and thereby protect Catchers in the WZs, which is great once they have Leap. Then, after the Blitzer goes down, he falls back, either along the sidelines if prone vs. agility (forcing a 2+ dodge to sidelines or a 3+/2+ dodge), or next to the Catcher otherwise. If he stays standing, you can put him forward instead against slower teams (just not into an unmoved oppo's TZ) or back next to the Catcher to shut off the outside route.

What is Nuffle's view? Through a window, two-by-three. He peers through snake eyes.
What is Nuffle's lawn? Inches, squares, and tackle zones: Reddened blades of grass.
What is Nuffle's tree? Risk its trunk, space the branches. Touchdowns are its fruit.

Dammit. I meant to hit "Quote," and I hit "Edit. So my above post is supposed to be where this one is quoting the post that I effectively deleted.
Dammit. I hate that.
The deleted points were: 1) Pro Elf Blitzers are prohibitive cornerbacks and Catchers are some of the better safeties in the game, 2) an Apothecary is a really good deal on this team because your game is driven by the expensive guys who either have low AV or take a lot of hits, and 3) Side Step linos really help beef this team up.

well my brief flirtation with throwing the ball went reasonably well W1 D1 L1 and i was back to my usual mid-table mediocrity at OpenWar
The loss could have easily been a win with a sack deep in the Undead's half on an isolated ghoul resulting in a stun but the ball thrown back to mid table for my opponent to recover. If it had stayed down there it was a score assuming the Elf could pick up the ball.
AND then was picked off for an interception by a Zombie who was marked with a Catcher again in the opponents half and in scoring range needing only to Catch (with NoS) and Dodge out
As gramps said, "... if the dog hadn't have stopped for **** i would have caught a rabbit"
I found it liberating throwing the ball around rather than grinding the ball downfield for long scoring drives.
Mind you, i'll be using Dwarfs next season
