One minor problem is transparency, when a player looses and then gains one point of MA for instance. He'll end up with a "normal" profile but his value isn't. After a long series of games it can happen that no one understands the roster anymore without running a table including all improvements and injuries his players had.
If I see a point in reducing player's value it's to make the rosters more plain otherwise I would encourage coaches to retire their players before they become medical phenomenons (retirement is not a bad effect anyway it keeps things simple and the teams changing).
