9 and 4 have Sidestep, and are unsurfable. In fact, Frenzy-blitzing 9 and getting a push is a threat, while a pow doesn't actually poke much of a hole. I share your concerns about 10 and 4, but if I'm kicking to mid-back I have to get them downfield somehow! I guess one square isn't a big deal...

As far as leaving a side open, I like to do that if I'm down men, especially against MA6 teams, like Orcs, Norse or Chaos/CP. But I really like having the manpower to throw pressure on the ball if the cage attempt fails. After all, the main benefit to the asymmetric defense is to force the offense to cage away from the LOS, perhaps drawing attention off the line.

Why you should never use a non-Tackle Frenzy player to blitz a SS/D/B player at equal ST:

1) the setup, just the left half

Code: Select all

-- -- -- --|DL DL DL --
-- -- -- --|-- -- -- --
-- SS -- --|LM -- -- CM
-- -- LF --|-- LS -- --
2) the offense'sprep, xx being prone linos, and OO being offensive players (the line scheme is pure speculation, and depends on the opponent, the lie of the ball, and the offensive plan)

Code: Select all

-- -- -- --|OO -- -- --
-- OO -- xx|xx xx -- --
-- SS -- --|LM -- -- CM
-- -- LF --|-- LS -- --
3) the attack, xx being prone linos, FZ being Frenzy.
a) 2d block; 11 pows, yes, but 21 pushes!

Code: Select all

-- -- -- --|-- -- -- --
-- OO FZ xx|xx xx -- --
-- SS -- --|LM -- -- CM
-- -- LF --|-- LS -- --
b) 2d against! 1 pow, 21 pushes!

Code: Select all

-- -- -- --|-- -- -- --
-- OO -- xx|xx xx -- --
-- FZ -- --|LM -- -- CM
SS -- LF --|-- LS -- --
c) Uh-oh! Hope you got SF or SS!

Code: Select all

-- -- -- --|-- -- -- --
-- OO -- xx|xx xx -- --
-- -- -- --|LM -- -- CM
FZ SS LF --|-- LS -- --
Even Grab isn't the end of the world, if you have Dodge. Sure, they stick you on the sideline, but you just dodge away; if you're prone, you can do it at end of turn. Tentacles and Grab... that's scary, but it's action on the sideline, away from the kick, and the bulk of Tents/Grab players are slow and many have antiskills and play on teams that don't move the ball well. So drawing those guys to the far sideline is sometimes worth an injury roll.

Wanna know how to skill your Tackle Blitzer real fast? Play Lizards!

I just played a laugher against a Lizardman team that really had no hope from the get-go. I've had days like that, where AV9 feels like AV6. Tackle really jacked him up, and I beat him on blocking odds consistently, but most of it was just luck on the AV and Injury dice. I only fouled once, and that was tactical (and it failed); #9, Rush Moore, is a killing machine, and picked up two more Cas today, one of them on a Saurus! Consistently outnumbered, the Lizards really couldn't have done anything about this awful game. Fortunately, the only death was a rookie Skink and the only SI got Apothed successfully.

Directional kicking and spammed Dodge on the LOS led me to a 4-0 win with a 5-0 Cas count. Wicked dice didn't hurt; both of us turned over early a couple of times on rolls that were almost certain to pass, but the injuries all landed on him, and really piled up early. I didn't skill the SS/T Blitzer, but I did get him 14 SPP, and I only need to get him one more! So next game he's my retriever! Fingers crossed. Wrestle/Dodge Catcher is also close to skilling, and I have Block on a Dodge Lino plus Dodge on a rookie. One more rook to skill.

So yeah, case closed. Thanks!
