With just one Guard in the team (on a ag3 non-dodge player), I think Guard is the best choice. There is no room for fancy mutations yet, imo

Re: Gutter runner skill dilemma
Guard would be great especially if supporting a leaper in future. I play DE in current tabletop league and have 5 blodge sidesteppers, 3 with guard. I put them near the cage and opponents are often afraid to block in case they push me into better position. It means cages stay stationary and get to pick where/when to hit.
Having said that Id also think about prehensile tail. A Blodge, tail shadowing gutter would be great - forcing difficult dodges over and over. I like that idea if your league has a lot of elves etc.

Guard would be the main pick in our league.

Gutters are ST2 and AV7 is the only really good argument against Guard. And unlike Human Catchers, they're the core of your team, so you want to keep them out of zones. But a Guard Runner is a ton of fun. I like Two Heads even still.

What is Nuffle's lawn? Inches, squares, and tackle zones: Reddened blades of grass.
What is Nuffle's tree? Risk its trunk, space the branches. Touchdowns are its fruit.

Thanks, all, I think I'll go with guard, and see how long it takes until he annoys someone enough for them to kill him
