I wouldn't put it past the lizardman coach to go for the kill. He's one of those ego/power gamer types who cries foul at every roll that comes up '1' and such.
After a bit of thought I'm going for the apoth. I can run away from the saurus and beat up skinks if they get to close. I may just head hunt skinks for the first few turns. If I can hurt them he'll be in hot water just like me! I know I'm a better coach than him( played him twice w/ my orcs and won 4-0/3-0) so I'll take the 8 elf challange.

A 2-2 tie. He got a Int that saved him the game. Damn Skink. Oh I had 2 more players get killed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Glad I had an apoth for one!
I made some money and bought a catcher. I also gained skills on almost all my living team:). I have to play dwarves next.
The Athel Loren Longbows so far:
line - kick
line - nig
line
line - doubles???????????
line - SKILL
wardancer - skill
catcher
line - skill
line
FF10; RR = 2
I played the same dwarf team preseason for fun and won 4-0 with a 4 turn riot......
I'm thinking block on a lineman, stripball on the WD, and maybe accurate for the dbls... he's an old elf kicker model so he boots the ball rather than passing it( an Oz rugby elf). I know guard is the best choice...maybe leader, but I want to have a UBER fun team. I don't care about being 'well developed'.

I'd probably give both linemen block skill. But keep them of the line for a few games, when playing hard hitters (the dwarfs?). With a skill and your few players they are too valuable to waste on the line. Perhaps give one of them dodge instead of block, but watch out for tacklers! Doubles on lineman should be either leader (helping you with your 2 RR) or guard as standard double choice for elf linemen. Perhaps dauntless if you feel like it, but I wouldn't do it.
Wardancer should be either strip ball or tackle, depending on the amount of sure hands on your opponents players.

I agree with the Dodge; on WE it is definitely more useful than Block (because of their lower AV and higher MV)
For the doubles Dauntless or Guard would be the best choices; safe accurate for the thrower (once you have one). If you want fun (and a short-lived elf) take Piling On
, Jump Up might also be a nasty surprise
For the Wardancer I'd prefer tackle over strip ball, since tackle is also useful against non-ballcarrying players and bc it actually takes somebody down!
Enjoy the team

I very much disagree with most preceding postings.
Give those Lineelves Block! Especially since you face Dwarves next. Even if not, I'd go Block first.
Get Leader for the doubles-lineelf. As good as Guard is, otherwise skillless lineelves have a very short life expectancy since they will become public enemy no.1 and are taken out of the game very easily. Though Dauntless might be a decent choice in case you have to face many high STR dudes in your upcoming games.
Considering the serious difficulties your team is facing I would suggest that you give your Wardancer Side Step! He can't be blocked very often with Side Step and it will be difficult to set up good fouls against him. Furthermore, many blocks will simply allow you to position him to your advantage. Strip Ball will be almost useless against Dwarves.
I think that you shouldn't have acquired a Catcher that early (you play dwarves next, I must emphasize that again!). You really should have saved that money for a 2nd Wardancer. Then get a Thrower and/or Tree next. Afterwards you can acquire up to 4 Catchers.
Consolidation of your team should be your top priority right now.

"just" experience? There is nothing "just" about experience! It's the best form of data you can get!Mirascael wrote:The apoth thing was just experience. My brand new league team suffered 3 kills (out of 4 casualities) in its second game. Against Zons. Only could apoth once.

Game 3 is history. A Win for the Athel Loren Longbows! 4-1( cos we let em' score!).
I did well even though the dwarven coach was trying to 'kill my team' for a forfit win. Then he had the nerve to bitch over my running away from his team on turns 7 and 8 of the second half... oh well sore looser.
I went with sidestep on the WD, Block on a LE, Kick on a LE, and duantless on my dbls LE. Mirascael's wisdom worked and didn't hurt this time!
I got a dbls on my nig lineman who will get Guard
the new catcher got Block
I got +1 FF( 11 now!!!), and made 80K+ my 10K = 90K
I play a chaos dwaven team next week. They have to face a tough player tommorrow who might cripple some players so I'm playing it by ear on how/if I spend my 90K. A 2nd WD would be sweet and would a treeman( save my elves from abuse). With an 11 FF I should be making good $ next game I hope! So 3 games into the league and 3 dead elves my WEs are the best offensense and leading my divison! Update next week!!!
