I know it each to his own and all, but I'd normally field 4 linemen on the LOS and as I only ever want a maximum of 4 linemen in a human team (so I can take all of the positional players and still have room for freebooters) I'd not normally have one in the backfield, hence my question regarding the thrower, if you've got one that can throw then the second can kick.
I put blitzers in the wings because more often than not they're the weak areas that an opponent will attack.
But I suppose its because my first team was orcs and you'd have BOB on LOS blitzers in wings and then possibly a thrower / goblin further back and with orcs its more advantagtous to be able to control the kick.

My 1st Thrower, is ready to Level up again, She is at 13 SPP. Her 1st Skill was "Accurate".
2nd Skill will be Kick!!!!!!!
I was looking and looking at the Skill List, and was trying to figure out which skill to take next...
Thank you!!!!

Sure Hands! Sure Hands! Sure Hands! You forgot to take Sure Hands. I'd say this was a tad more important than Kick.SuM wrote:My 1st Thrower, is ready to Level up again, She is at 13 SPP. Her 1st Skill was "Accurate".

Anyone else like the idea od Pass Block on a thrower (of any race)? They always end up sitting quite deep, waiting for the ball to pop loose.

I agree with the statement, that Human teams can have a problem with giving kick to a Lineman.
My normal setup:
1 Ogre
4 Blitzers
1 Thrower
2 Catchers
3 Linemen
I put the 3 Linemen on the LOS so I have no Linemen to field, where he can use his kick-skill. I have learned, that putting the Ogre on the LOS can be a bad idea, because my usual opponents often punish him severely and he has been Cas´ed to many a time.
So I wanted to give kick to my Thrower, who is in the backfield, but he rolled +AG on his third skill-roll. That was nice of course, but now I have no kicker, as I dont want to give kick to a position player. I like to develope them to do some specific task, and kick wont make for instance a Blitzer better at doing his Blitzerjob, for which he was developed.
I came to the conclusion, that maybe kick just wasnt meant for this team?
Unless anyone has a good suggestion?
Sorry for reopening an old thread

nobody in our league thought that kick was that great a skill for ages until we got to the bearded snot and really saw it in action. now it's generally one of the first skills that gets picked for most of the teams.
never knew quite how useful it can be

kick is a great skill (perfect for pointless lineman)
However the amazon are unique I think in not needeing kick to aid their game style. Choose block as quick as possible for whole team. Surehands both throwers to protect ball before block, but otherwise block 1st skill. Zons cant run fast enough to benefit form kick, but also not scarred of a normal kick as can fight and defend very well.

Hey guys,
Quick question...I just had a hobgoblin grab his first skill and was thinking about taking Kick so that I could drop the ball closer to mid field/along the side lines. I think this could be useful against slow teams obviously, and it would also put the ball into centaur blitz range much faster against faster teams. Would this be a good idea? Or is kick a bad skill for a Chaos Dwarf team?
Thanks guys!

Humans tend to have their throwers set up deep to cover the back field and retrieve the ball. Often intending to hand it off or quick pass it to the other thrower to run it forward into a pocket. This means that the throwers are often unable to retrieve kicks to the LOS meaning that Blitzers or linemen are used for the pickup, without the safety of a sure hands re-roll. I would use a short kick if playing a slower team, it gives more chance of putting pressure the ball early.
Alternatively a deep placed kick can make it difficult for the humans to bring the ball up to the safety of the pack without risking a pass. If they make the throw they may mess up, or it may be left held by an ST2 catcher. If they hold the ball deep a fast team can run an intercept screen round between the pack on the LOS and the throwers holding the ball. This creates the threat of sacking the ball carrier, and also makes the forward pass more risky.
Playing against elves I would favour the short kick. Helfs, Welfs and Pelfs are all too good at holding a deep ball and then moving it from end to end. With a short kick you have more chance of being able to swarm all over them, unless they try to move the ball deep.
Always look for areas not well covered too. Are there any places where they'll need dodges or GFIs to get to the ball. Will they need to use the blitz to free the player to pick it up? The more rolls made, the more chance the reroll will be used the more chance they'll fail the pickup, or the GFI or the dodge, the more chance you have your turnover.
