Discuss Fantasy football-style board games - GW's Blood Bowl, Impact!'s Elfball, Privateer Press' Grind, Heresy's Deathball, etc. THIS IS NOT AN NFL FANTASY FOOTBALL SITE!

I think that's the one thing that I (and most players) miss about the cards, the element of doubt about what you have.
But to bring the cards back they would have to be considerably toned down, ammended, restricted as to when they could be played and probably sorted into different levels of power before I would consider using them.
Still the current handicap table isn't up to the job so I guess it's all worth considering.
I can't believe that a return of the cards would be enough for people who want an end to 'pro' BB though...

I like them the way they were and I never felt I was beaten cause someone got a better card then me to win a game.
One thing that did annoy several players in our leagues over the years was the amount of money that got injected into a team as a result of some of them though. I seen some pretty gross amounts of gold go onto a team in just a few games.
I think most players from the internet community would like to see a tiered deck in the interest of fairness. I would like to see the element the cards brought come back too the game.

I think a combonation of McMurty Burgers and Secret Weapons will make it less pro and more comical like the game was originally.

I guess I did, but we'll probably have to agree to disagree at this point.

I'm sure there are ways that these things can be added that will keep the 'Pro' crowd happy too. In fact the BBRC are working on it now.
Is it the lack of randomness that people are missing from the game or just elements such as this being included at all.
TBH there were no secret weapons or big guys to speak of in third edition either all being tucked away in Star Player cards, which were admittedly more accessible but not full of flavour IMO.
Are people really missing stuff that was in 3ed or are we harking back to the 'good old days' of 2ed when reminiscing about the way it was?

Chet's actually been working on revising the old cards for quite a while. He's got a pretty good system going right now and has balanced them out pretty well, but I just have a philosophical problem with not seeing everything on the board - and the printing costs are a bit of a problem these days.

I wrote up an involved joke that worked the "Scrappy Kid" card text in from Shadowfist to make fun of this statement - then realized only 2 people here would get it.

I think so to. A few good ideas I have read about. As Skummy said Chet is workin on one. I miss the cards (as they were) but I am open minded to an edited version of the cards.

I think its the element mostly. The whole game is random anyway.

Typically these were supplemented but it became difficult to tailor a league to new players when there were so many variations on the basic rules.

I started when third came out. From what I gather most people that played 2nd missed the versatility of second...ie...how you set up your team.

I disagree completely with this. I find it far easier to teach my version of BB than the official one as the LRB ruleset is much less flexible so I wouldn't be able to adapt it to simplify the game.
I am not sure how you mean. Currently I run a pretty open schedual system. you can play who you want but you can't play the same coach twice in a row. Typically we get someone who decides that the game looks fun enough to play. I can tell them buy the game and it comes with teams to start you off and the rules are on line.
Under third we had the boxed set, death zone and numerous citadel journals/Blood Bowl Compendium(s) to supply for the extra rules for Big Guys, teams not in the book, new talent, ect...
Back then a new player would get the Deathzone and Boxed Set and enter play with his team and be suprised at how much extra stuff there was that was not included in either DZ or BS.
As far as actually teaching someone the rules. I have not had a problem with any of the versions and this version less so cause they can figure most stuff out on their own.
