from my lrb 5 tourney I just played in and MBBL, I foul more than in LRB 4.
Also took sneaky git before DP, but If I had to do it over again, I'd take DP in a heart beat. and I'd try and get two dp's on the team. One to foul until caught in the first half, one to foul until caught in 2nd.

chainsaws, bombs, or the Stab skill) do not count for Star Player

fast work Mr Fen, cheers. Although it doesn't actually mention fouling. Just special weapons, crowd pushing and stabbing. Isn't fouling a type of block/blitz as you have to make it at the end of your move?
I know I'm being Nuffles Advocat here.
Irrespective I think that our league will still award CAS's for fouls.
How else are gobbo's supposed to cause a CAS?

Naah, a Foul Action is a seperate kind of action with more in kin with a pass action than a Block action. As you get a move before you perform the action.
A long time ago Fouls did give SPPs. But rapidly leagues became dominated by the fouling players. Now Dirty Player was +2/+2 at the time, but it was still a cheap and easy way to get SPPs fast.
The top players in the league I played in back then were all fouling linemen with about 40+ CAS to their names.
Now admittedly fouling is much weaker than it is now. But the rule is still in place so officially you can't get CAS except during a block as the list of exemptions is phrased to exclude everything except for casualties from a block.
As for Goblins, I've found ganging up 3 to 1 helps Goblins get CAS.

Of course, you're free to house rule otherwise and imo I don't think it would unbalance the development of fouling players so much. Except for maybe Khemri SkeletonsCasualties inflicted in any other way (including... ) do not count for Star Player points.

Foul is a Foul.
Block is a Block.
Not the same type of action at all.
SPP's used to be given for fouls, but I think it was removed aaround LRB1, as most leagues reported DP one of the most widely given skills, and DPs were leaders in CAS/SPPs (I know my Norse lineman was - 60-odd SPPs in a 10 game season, and he didn't score once).

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.
