If you mean "out of context" as from another thread, than yes it is.Toby wrote:This quote is of of course out of context.
In context I said its not my hobby, I dislike painting, while I admire well painted figs an people who are skillfull at it.
I play the game for the game. And i rather spent my time playing than painting.
Do you paint your Chess figures? I guess no.
If you mean "out of context" as it does not apply here, than you are sadly mistaken. It is the same argument. You want to unnecassarily beef up the teams, because you don't take pride in the game or the Mini's. While the rest of the community looks at this as a hobby game, and want's to keep it as a hoppy, and not play with powergaming superstars/players that start at thier first skill, instead of earning it.
When I tried to explain this to you, in another thread. . .
So that quote is also in context. As a matter of fact, those two quotes apply to just about everything you post, because all of the threads degenerate down to the fact that you don't understand. You don't understand the community, you don't understand why people play, and you don't understand when people try to tell you that some of your ideas won't work. You said yourself that you don't "even consider it a hobby to paint stupid minitures," in which the game is based, and most or the revenue that keeps the game supported is based off of.You wrote:Im afraid I don't understand.
I can't even offer anymore advice for you at this point, because it is redundant. Rest assured that I feel physically ill everytime I read your posts now, but like Dark Lord said, it is like rubber necking a fatal car crash.

I am sick of this whole discussion. I regret comming here, and I already regret posting this
As far as I see it:
Whenever Toby posted something, he gets bashed. No matter what.
After 3, 4, 5 ... posts the whole thing always gets out of hand. Insults to follow. More people joining the thread.
Grow up already. If you dont like Tobys idea, its easy to state this and even give arguments, fitting to the topic. But just saying: "Toby you lame ass power game you want stars because you are not interested in playing the game properly" is NOT an option. He never said that.
I will defend him here:
Too deny this he capped those "Stars" with not using Re-Rolls AND making them double price at teamcreating (so you CAN NOT start with them). So their only use is realy replacing a dead self created star, since you CANNOT hire a "Starplayer Wardancer" if you already have 2 (he wrote that stars occupie positional slots).
I have not tested Tobys rules, nor I have an opinion on them BUT they look more balanced, too ME, than the current freebooting Rules of broken stars (wich I completly HATE).
Want to know my opinion on Stars? JUST ERASE THEM ALL! Make SW rules official and remove Stars from the game at all. No freebooting, nothing.
Just my 2 Cents.
This is not an Insult in 1 way. Both sides acted not ok or even growen up.

Hmm..
Well in our league we have and probably always will, use star players - just by buying them and keeping them...
However in our league there are a good deal of star players 4+ for each race, you can't have more than one per league and you can't start with one in your team...
We have noticed that 1) People who rely on their star players have generally weaker teams and are easy to beat - you concentrate on the star... (I used to be guilty of this, with Griff....) and 2) There are so many star players allowed that no-one ends up with a super team...
In the end though it is always the home grown talent that steals the limelight - in fact thats one reason we keep the stars - we just turn famous (non - dead) players into Star players at the end of each season (if they're interesting). These players are of course unique....
The only thing thats missing now is the ageing roll. Really our stars should age - i.e. get our modified niggles etc, but they don't, which is kind of daft...
I don't think Star players - permanent ones, are unbalanced particularly, but freebooting them is a beat mean, consdering you get them at half their cost. Makes them MORE powerful IMHO....
Anyway - we've tried leagues with and without star players, and I think it is up to each commissioner and each set of players to decide whether or not they want to have stars in their league. To me freebooting is unusual - in my book, because you don't see that in football (the other game I am a fan of
). It just doesn't feel right to me, but anyway - thats our league...
I really don't like the way people have such fixed opinions about this and consider all other opinions stupid by default... It was almost this bad in our league about 5 years ago!

Thank you Robotorz
I may not agree with Toby on a lot of things, but does the atmosphere have to get this venomous?

Wow - talk about uncalled for. Extrapolate much?
It wasn't long ago that permanent stars were part of the rules, and not universally unpopular. Some still use 'em.
I don't think that permanent stars quite add up to evil powergaming ruining the hobby.

PS -Oh, and that last comment was far below the belt.

I think the reason why the replys on this topic got heated was because on virtually every other topic Toby posted he would ignore reasoned arguements against his ideas with comments like "You know nothing", or "You're obviously a newbie with no experiance". That sort of response doesn't induce to reply to him in a polite manner, but reply in kind.
OK, I admit I bit, but if he wanted to insult me, he's got to expect to be insulted back.
I di ask him to email me his ideas so I could look through them off-line. Some of it was good, but was swamped in ideas that I (and others) thought were bad. I took my time, and then wrote a long reply back, pointing out what I thought were problems, and offering potiental fixes, including presenting each idea seperately so it could be judged on it's individual merit, rather than one intrgrated TobyBowl. I got a quick "thanks" back, then nothing, so I not sure he really wants the input
