High Elf Specialization

Post by erod4 »

I am having some trouble figuring who to specialize where in my league. The roster is as follows:

2 Phoenix (1 w/ pass, accurate, 1 w/ pass, accurate, sure hands)
2 Dragon ( 1 w/ block, dodge, strip ball, 1 w/ block, dodge, tackle)
2 Lion ( 1 w/ catch, dodge, block, 1 w/ catch, dodge)
2 Lineman w/ block, dodge
2 Lineman w/ block
1 Lineman w/ guard
1 Lineman w/ dirty player
1 Lineman w/ ST +1
1 Lineman with nothing (leaning towards kick since only 1 spp away)

Team rating 180 League record 8-0-0

Each player is more or less 6-8 spp's away from their next skills on average and i think i have the foundational skill choices covered for an even balance should anyone die or catch a niggling(I've been pretty fortunate in that regard since my apothecary has been flawless thus far), I'm just looking for any input which could help determine specific roles for each player instead of having just a boilerplate squad where everyone could pretty much do anything as well as another.

Any input would be appreciated.

I would

- concentrate SPPs to the ST4 guy to give him Blodge, Sidestep (Frenzy)
- second in line is the Guard guy, he needs Block
- get kick on the next normal lineman who gets a skill
- develop a frenzy player with block & sidestep, preferrably from a fast player
- get 2 players with blodge and sidestep to protect the widezones in the defensive setup
- get a wardancer by putting leap on a blitzer, preferrably the Strip Ball one

One frenzy player and one wardancer will force the oppopnents to be much more careful on the offence - it will limit their options.

MickeX's post sound very sensible, although I would set a higher priority to getting side step. If you are lucky enough to get NoS on a Lion then safe throw also becomes a priority. Otherwise sidestep, pass block and leap are also very good skills for your lions

Ok, the game has been played and the results were:

Rookie lineman picked up kick

Lion w/ Catch Dodge picked up sidestep

ST4 lineman got block

but.......................................

Dragon w/ Block Dodge Tackle rolled doubles:

Should I ignore the doubles and just grab leap to make him a wardancer, or go for something a little more aggressive like mighty blow or guard.

P.S. Thanks for the input thus far, this forum is great and has been very helpful as this is my first league.

Frenzy, Frenzy, Frenzy! :D

He becomes a bit more difficult to use, but extremely useful on both defense and offense. Use him to:

- push players out...
- limit the cage's possibilities to advance in the widezone by threathening a pushout
- limit the opponents defence setups in the widezones
- make a nice big hole for your catchers to run through on offence
- take out key AV7 dodge players
- make sure you don't fail in those "single chance to get the ballcarrier"-situations

oops...

forgot about frenzy. i had it stuck in my mind to give that to the st 4 guy on doubles or the blitzer with strip ball.

It makes alot of sense though since this one has tackle and will most often be going after the other receivers with dodge to knock them down rather than just free up the ball.

Thanks a bunch
