the way of chaos dwarf! what to do??

Post by browwnrob »

ok ive mailordered the chaos dwarf box set and a bull centaur so that will leave me with 4 blockers, 8 hobbos and a BC. i dont know if i should purchase a new BC for the starting team or a troll or 2 more blockers!!
is a troll worth it on the LOS instead of a BC? i really am a bit clueless!

what do people like to start with in their lineup?
the league i am hoping to join is of quite a high standard so team tactics are also high in my list of priorities!

what tactics should i try use? i realise that hobbos are the weak point in my team so i have to protect them as much as possible.

while mailordering i chatted to andy meechan (who was more than happy i chose the chaos dwarf way!) and said i should get 2 BC's

ive only played a few games with chaos dwarves before and did ok with them... my record was 1/2/0 with them

I think I started mine with
2 BC
5 CD
4 Hob
3 RR
8 FF

Purchased Apo then troll, dwarf, RR, hobgob, hobgob and since I have 50k I'll problably the 16th player, a last hobgob.

I am really happy with it (6-1-1 td: 15-6)

I mostly score with a caged protected hobgob, but BC go for a fast TD on occasions (mostly touchback I guess). Aim for the 2-1 win...

Try to score with different players

Go guard on your CD!

Here is my team to give you an idea of who does what...
BC Leader 12 spp 4td (I know you shouldn't blablabla...)
BC 0 spp
CD Guard 6 spp 1comp! 1 cas 1 TD
CD Guard 7 spp 1 cas 1 mvp
CD Guard 7 spp 1 cas 1 mvp
CD Skill tbd 6 spp 3 cas
CD Mighty Blow NIG 15 spp 5 cas 1 Mvp I gave him mb because of his nig keeping guard for the healty players... But his cas rate is impressive now!
CD 5 spp 1Mvp
Hob -1AV Dirty player 11 spp 2 td 1 mvp, since he has a low AV it is okay if he's sent off...
Hob Sure Hands Block 25 spp 3 comp 5td 1cas 1 mvp Hogs spp because of Sure hands... I often force myself to handoff to another player.
Hob Kick -you need one- 8 spp 1Ttd 1 mvp
Hob +1 AG 6 spp 2 td, just got his ag increase, gonna be a key player!
2 Hob 0 spp, latest acquisitions
1 Troll Block 15spp 5 cas 1 mvp

You'll need in the long run (can be 10 games only, so not that long...) 6 CDs, 2 BCs, 1 Troll and 7 Hobgoblins. So you need to order 2 CDs, 2 BCs (Hthark or Warhammer ones) and the Troll.

I usually start with:
1 BC
6 CDs
4 HGs
4 RRs
9 FF

Most cost efficent, lots of toughness (6 CDs), 1 BC is enough for the first games and the 4 RRs can make a difference if you have some poor luck.

Purchse apo first, then 2nd BC, then 1 HG, then Troll, then more HGs/RRs

cant remember how i started them.

defo 2 Bull centaurs from the off and 5 blockers, 4 hobbos , 3 rr rest in FF.

first purchase apoth then 6 th blocker then troll,

Dunno what you wrote at the top, BUT DO NOT PUT BULLS on the line.

on the line are Guards and the troll, Bulls in the wide zones to strike deep ;p,

1st skill on the blockers should be guard followed by mighty blow, on a double take stand firm.
For the Hobbos, surehands, kick, block, dirty player are the mandatory choices.
For the Bulls, Block, tackle, break tackle, stand firm, etc.
For the troll, Block guard (you see a pattern forming here..GUARD)
dunno if this helps ya

A troll is one of the last players you should buy. IIRC, I had something like 2 BCs, 6 CD Ws and 6 Hobgobs before I got my troll.

As for strategy, I use my hobgobs as ball carriers alot. Cage them up and move down the field.

With guard as the first skill on your C DW it is tough to break such a cage. Guard is also the reason you don't need a troll that much.

If you need to score quickly though, line both your BCs up in a wide zone. If you get a touchback you can give it to them right off.

Overall the BCs are your most important players. If they get an AG+ they can become your primary ball handlers too.

CDw are one of the more enjoyable teams to play IMO, since they have such variety...so have fun!

i started with same team as Tim becuase the 6 CD need all the experience they can get to gain skills. The bull centaur will gain skills quicker but purchase second as next after an apoch.

Play: bull centaurs as blitzers who make a blitz action each turn, block with the dwarfs, hobos assist blocks zone palyers and pick up ball on offense. this basic division is crude but will be best use of your team pretty much every turn. A solid cage for scoring will work well with the bulls blitzing a running whole and can threathen a hand off to give you bit off flexibility. this team is great for defense with its strong line and quick response blitzers

I just recently started a Chaos dwarf team (4 games into the season now) and I used a slightly different approach.

I bought one troll, one bc, 4 dwarves and five goblins. Thats eleven players plus 4 rerolls and 9ff.

I thought that the troll needed to be in from game one to gain experience from the very beginning, while the second bc would came later, as he can catch up more easily on SPPs due to TD scoring.

Apoth was first purchase, then the second bc. After that stock up on dwarves and finally hobgobs.

The thing is, I wanted the troll to gain experience ASAP and it worked out so far, after game 4 he has his first skill. I'll now push my second bc to gain his first skill.

I start it differently. I get a Troll from the start, when the team develops and he ages I dismiss him. But He helps a lot at the start. First skill for bull centaurs: breaktackle, unless you get doubles in that case stand firm, you need to get them moving :D . And agree CD are fun.

Remember to play to your strengths:

1.Develop the Chaos Dwarves properly (Guard first, MB then, Stand Firm or dodge on doubles)
2.Foul with the hobgoblins.
3. Pass and score with the CD's alot.
4. Use your relatively good mobility to your advantage on offense: chaos dwarves ought to move in a wide front, while the bull centaurs and hobgobs seek for the opening. This way there are always some CD's available to assist in breaking the hole.
5. Don't let the BC's hog up all the points

Quiz: Which one isn't right? :P
