Painting School is in!

Post by Babs »

Just for fun, at the beginning of last school term, I started a painting class. That's right! Students would volunteer their lunchtime once a week to come to the wood tech room and learn how to paint miniatures!

(I provided the miniatures, they provided the paint and brushes)

Well, I soon realised that it was more about the conversation than the painting! Anyway, since the year 10's were the largest group, and their conversation wasn't so bad, I let it continue this term. Finally, after two terms of very slow work (and people forgetting to bring their paints and brushes continually!) I've photographed their work for you to see.

Here's the whole group's work:

and my star students? Well, only one has their miniature near finished, the guy second from the left:

So what do you think? Other than my students are lazy and still haven't finished in two terms (but hey - it's their lunchtimes!) how are they doing?

They've finally got the hang of 'blacklining' in my opinion. I'm still waiting for them to start washing and highlighting though - but they just haven't gotten there yet!

Oh yeah - my mini! Well spotted!

And yes! You can see my mini there on the left of the back shot.

I thought I'd paint my miniature to show the students how it was done in the 'old school' style of 2nd Edition (well, they are the 2nd edition plastic humans after all!)

Apologies for the poor quality shots. I had to do this during work, and so time to carefully get the lighting right and focus etc.... LOL!

Anyway, keen for comments on how my imparting of knowledge (or how my mini looks) has gone.

Next term I hope to show people how to base minis properly too.

hope you explained how poor paint can be on the old plastics, most look bit rough. Try to paint a scheme and highlight after that. Good base coat is everything ;)

What a great idea! They look good for the work of first time painters. An awesome concept.

Great idea. Now all you need to do is get them to paint 10-15 more human miniatures and teach them the rules.

I like it, and I greatly applaud that you're exposing your students to it. Not just bloodbowl, but minipainting in general. I'd been painting for years with hardly ever actually gaming. Hopefully you've got a few budding mini-savants. :)
