Looking for conversion ideas for warhammer skinks and saurus
Hello all,
I've started converting a set of skinks and saurus from the warhammer line. The second to last edition I believe.
So far, I've clipped the weapons from their hands, but left the quivers and clubs attached to the bodies because I figured it would be too difficult to remove them.
For the skinks, I've added a small shoulderpad.
For the saurus, I took the shields and added them to the upper arms and green stuffed straps for them. I've also added a shoulder pad on some of them. And there is various little additions like horns and spikes and such.
They don't look too bad, but I'm at a loss as to what to do with them now. If anyone has any ideas or examples. I would appreciate it.
btw, my green stuffing level is still very low.

But with so much of the quiver attached to the body, I'm worried that the figurines back is going to look terrible.
Although, I just had an idea. I wonder if I'd be able to convert it into a football carrier.
umm.....

There was an article in the Journal #22, reprinted in BB Compendium, which had the Lizardmen team in it. It also had a "how to" on thmaking the team using the plastics available at the time. might be an idea to try to track down a copy of either (if you don't have it), or even give Fanatic a email, they might (or more likely might not) be able to give/sell you a copy (I would, but don't have a scanner).

Dwarfcoach has a cool lizardman team which was converted i think from WFB and he had some pictures somewhere around here if you seach for it or just pm him he could give you some tips
but i agree with Grum you have to try and lose the quivers etc.
the only problem with liz teams when converted that you cannot tell if they are stunned or just knocked over. I think the best was around this (and i cannot remember who told me about this) is to paint the ring around the base two colours so if say red is showing he is stunned.
cheers
Ben

I've got a team converted from the current WFB range as well, though my paintings pretty crap. There should be some pics of them online somewhere.
Poor pic (my photos are crap as well!)

I'm pretty happy with the Sauri (though DC's not convinced they look ST4), but if I had to make the team again, I'd use or greenstuff some pads for the Skinks.

GAH!!
I just deleted all the pics of my Lizzie team last week to make space to host my Demon pics....
I will post a couple of new pics for you after the weekend. My team is based on the new plastic Skinks and Saurus and my Kroxigor is based on the 'official Krox' like the one in Darksons pics.
Until after the weekend...
Hang on, I've got 1 pic of some players from a newsletter in my old league:

The team looks alot more impressive all together, I'll take some more pics

Yeah, the quivers and stuff have got to go. I can't quite remember where these are on the models, but if they're on their backs a quick and easy way to cover up the mess left once you've sawn them off is to give them a circular plate for their number.
Just get some plasti-card (about 1mm thick), punch some holes out of it with a hole punch and stick the little plastic discs on. Minimal greenstuffing ability required, although they look better if you blend them in a bit, put on a couple of rivets, straps etc.

at the back warhammer with basic conversion. To get the issue of face up/face down paint a number on front edge of base only.
Plenty of warhammer skinks are cool too. sorry no better pics, one day i will get bother to photo them

thanks for all the great ideas. And, yes, I've come to the conclusion that the quivers have to go. Sigh, I'm not look forward to it.
I'm also realizing that I wish I had gotten the latest skinks as both thier arms are separate from their bodies. The ones that I have only have one arm free and the other is part of the main body and right up beside the quiver. Oh well.
Anyways, my saurus are almost ready to prime and, personnally, I'm very happy with how they're turning out. I'll post some pictures soon.
