Making some skills better for tourney play

Post by Cooper »

I haven't thought this over very well, but i was thinking about tournament play and the skills you choose.

The number of skills that actually get chosen in tournaments isn't that big, basically because some skills are must-haves in the beginning. And since all Tournaments are played with Rooky teams...

How about making a new set of tournament skills in which you have more options. I would like to see more "divingcatch" kinda skills instead of "block".
I think for league play nothing should change, you will get to different skills fairly faster.

In other words, making some skills different (better! say, on par with Block) so the choices will be less obvious for tournament play.

I don't know what and how this could be done yet...
but how about this for instance:
1) Multiple Block: same as normal AND you roll a d6, on a 2+ you have ST6 for the moment. (Not usable when you have block.?)
2) Diving Catch and PassBlock combining to one skill?
or 3) If you chose Diving Catch you get Catch as well.
4) Shadowing: if you follow once, you count as having diving tackle? or tackle for the next dodge.
5) Pro: make it on a 3+ instead of 4+

None of this thought through well at this moment, but i thought it would be more fun to see more different skills chosen at tournaments.

Maybe introducing a pointing system would help:
E.g. you have 10 pts after a game and you can spend the points on skills which have a different value on a list.
Block skill would cost 8 pts and Diving Tackle would cost 4 pts instead (and some skills have 2 pts e.g).
Then a coach can buy one high pointed skill or he has the choice to choose 2 or three low pointed skills for his players.

I like this option as well! A lot!
