We startet a League last year and finished it a few weeks ago. Now we have started the second season but were unsure if to use the same teams with the advanced Teamratings, especially because some new Teams entered the League.
We finally developed this idea and are using it now:
All Teams start with 1.000.000 GP at the start of a season, wether they are experienced teams or not. But each Team can buy experienced players at higher costs: 2.000 GP per SPP. If they do not want to buy them (or can not afford to), they may buy them later - or hire them as Freebooters. Players that can play in different teams can also be bought or hired by them (if the original team does not want to hire or buy them at the same time).
In our opinion, this is a way to use the experience (and your beloved players) without making it to hard for new players to enter the league - the handicap table alone is not enough.
We also altered the Starplayer rules. Reaching the 51 SPP, players become 'Starplayers' (the rank). If they are Freebooter during that moment, they can never become full team members any more but have to be paid for each game, like original Starplayers. If they full teammembers during that time, the following effect will only take place at the and of the league (as the players are still under contract).
From now on, their costs (51 x 2,000 GP + original costs) are divided by 5 (rounded up to the next 5,000 GP's) and that is the sum, that you have to pay at each match. They can still earn SPP and get better. But they will also become more expensive, when they reach the next level (and only at that time, not when they just earn a few SPP). 76 x 2,000 GP + original costs as a superstar, and so on.
So a Skeleton-Legend (176+ SPP) would cost (30,000 GP + 176 x 2,000 GP) / 5 = 80.000 GP (per match) and a Kroxigor as a Legend would cost (130,000 GP + 176 x 2,000 GP) / 5 = 100.000 GP (per match).
As mere Starplayers (rank, 51 SPP) they would cost 30.000 for the Skeleton and 50.000 for the Kroxigor.
The aging roll is replaced by a career roll. 10+ at Starplayer Rank, 9+ at Superstar and 8+ at Megastar. Using 2D6, if you are rolling less than the number, his career has reached its peak and from now on the player can never ever gain SPP any more. He is in fact a Starplayer. As a 'Legend' he becomes instantly a starplayer.
