Dwarves growth Question...
'ello,
First, this is my first post but i have looked around abit.
I just started in a new blood bowl league, and I was wondering if it is really better to give my star runner block, rather than pro? I mean the benefits of pro are quite numerous. I never ever throw a block with him, and he rarely gets hit, well because he is a runner.
Second, i have two longbeards, one got a double, the other got a normal skill. I keep hearing people say give the one with double stand firm, yet the normal one guard. Wouldn't guard on both be equally good? Stand firm seems cool, but +1 all around? That is an anchor to which i might tie my team.
Tomarrow, i am going to play my first ever game against dark elves, and i am debating on which skills to finally give my players that i recieved in my game last night.
Also, i have 120k. I am debating on buying either an apothacary,or my 12th player, a longbeard. All of my position players are maxed out. I have three rerolls.
If you could please give me some advice, i would appreciate it greatly.
Cheers,
Bert
p.S how do you put a picture under your name. I am 21 but still can't seem to figure this out.

Your Runner will get hit, most coaches playing Dwarfs will try to get him/them of the pitch ASAP, and if they go hunting him, Pro won't help.
Whilst Guard is a good skill, a Stand Firm/Guard combo is even better, and as you cannot be sure of getting another double on a LB, it's a bit of a waste not to use it. Stand Firm on LB's is a pain, believe me. Never pick skills based on the next game, always look at the long-term picture. Get the Longbeard Stand Firm now, take Guard as his second skill (assuming it's not another Double) and you've got the ideal candidate to anchor your LOS on.
Ogres can no longer play for Dwarfs (if you're playing the current ruleset [LRB 4.0]).
As for what to spend the money on, any of those options are useful. Just because you're (majority) AV 9 doesn't mean you won't get hurt, so personally, I'd take the Apo, but that's probably because my teams have a habit of having positionals die early.
P.S. Avatar options are listed at the bottom of the profile page.

Re: Dwarves growth Question...
Block would be the better choice here, yes he will rarely block himself but inevitably at some point things will go wrong and he will be taking hits. If he is your ball carrier so him holding onto to the ball (ie not going down) is vital. And once the ball is loose things might turn into a scramble and as a dwarf player with low AG and MA you will be at a severe disadvantage. Block also gives your runner a role in defence, he is your fastest player so he is the best option when you need to hunt down catchertypes in your backfield. Here, again, block is vital.lutherblue wrote: I just started in a new blood bowl league, and I was wondering if it is really better to give my star runner block, rather than pro? Guard might be the best choice short term but if you give your longbeard stand firm now he can still get guard later (you can't be sure you'll roll doubles again next time), and a guard/stand firm can REALLY anchor a line. I'd take the Stand Firm.Second, i have two longbeards, one got a double, the other got a normal skill. I keep hearing people say give the one with double stand firm, yet the normal one guard. I would buy the apothecary and a longbeard. What version of the rules are you playing because in the latest edition Ogres are not allowed on Dwarf teams. Also, i have 120k. I am debating on buying either an apothacary, an ogre, or my 12th player, a longbeard. All of my position players are maxed out. I have three rerolls.
I hope this helps. If you could please give me some advice, i would appreciate it greatly.
And welcome to TBB!

edit: just saw Darkson posted the same things as me while I was still typing

Thanks for the help,
Thanks for the tips,
Are deathrollers worth getting? And is shadowing for dwarves ever worth it? It looks like a nifty skill, and might help out on defence.
Cheers,
Bert

Rules Question..
I am currently using the rules posted on G.W website, i believe it is called the living rule book. As far as the ogre thing, that was a mistake because i use army builder and it gave me the possibility of using an ogre. I forgot to go back and look at the rulebook to see if this was valid.

Side Step Longbeards are hell!
But im still undecided because i gave them usually dodge.
Reason is that even with Standfirm or side step they may go down.
Ok he can push me where he wants, but i wont go down. And every Longbeard who stands at the begin of my turn will be usefull that turn.
Those on the pitch not so often.

on ag3 players like runner or blitzer - no questionBut im still undecided because i gave them usually dodge.
on ag2 longbeard - diving tackle, like bizzy said or side step
would be my first choice.
longbeards have av 9 and thick skull, that should be enough to
survive on the field. Maybe a mixture of these combos is the way.
