I have been tormenting myself over how much fan factor I should start out with, so I did some calculations. These Calculations are based on the 2002 handbook. I was only concerned with "The Gate" and the Match winnings table (MWT). I already realize that FF is important on the Kickoff Table, but is that the main reason people sink gold into it?
I compared Fan Factor scores to "The Gate" and how it affects the MWT on the TR 100-125 column. As an example, let us take two TR100 teams that have a combined Fan Factor of (lets shoot high) 18 (9 each) they would need to roll almost ALL SIXES to get a +5 (like 15 of them and a few mid-high rolls). Chances are they will roll (average 3) and get +2 for a majority of the games.
Most beginning teams have 2-4 FF, meaning that their gate averages for two teams playing, will almost always be in the 12k - 24k, which equals a very weak 0 or a "normal" +1 on the MWT TR100-125. Based on the law of averages, it would take 2 teams with a combined 14 FF to achieve a +2 on the MWT. Sure they "might" roll high and get a +4 (roll all sixes) or +3 (roll all fives).
So in my opinion, FF can help on the KickOff table, but it almost has no effect on the MWT or "the Gate".
So should I still invest into FF when team creating, but keep it small, like 2-3? Or should I go for the gusto and raise it to a nice 5-9? The kickoff table is pretty important after all.
Thanks for any input!
