Starting rosters under LRB5 - general advice?

Post by Tante Kaethe »

Hi,

as we are about to reset our league to LRB5 I have been thinking about the effects that new FAME-/Kick-off and winnings-rules have on the way you choose your optimal starting roster.

In the past it was a no-brainer to get as much FF as possible, provided you have a long-term league. Now I'm not sure if this investment pays off.

And seeing that for "Cheering fans" and "Brilliant Coaching" only a d3 + FAME is used, it now might even make sense to start with at least one Cheerleader and one Assistant Coach.

So, what is your experience and/or theory? How much FF (if any) do you take and what about coaching staff (only under a long-term perspective).?

Cheers :D

I still think that it is far more important to buy your rerolls and plan your squad development. Coaches and cheerleaders I would buy as I had spare cash and I would want a starting FF of about 6-10. Bear in mind teams cost structures are vastly different. To go back to a discussion on another thread DE's are very costly. A full squad with no skills virtually starts at the beginning of the spiralling expenses if you add in your desired FF, RR etc. Not so for cheaper teams. Point is if you are a Elf player you might be able to afford less of what you want to start with so choose carefully. Again, personally, I would want a FF of 10 and 4 RR's, but the FF may have to come down. I would not compromise on the RR's.

FF is pretty much what you spend your spare cash on. Most of the teams in our league start with less than 5, the exception being Stunty teams.

In order of importance when starting:
Rerolls (3 - 4 prefered imo)
Players
Fan Factor (Less than 5 unless you want to go FAME denial, but be warned that the 2D6 are more important than your FF unless there is a massive difference)
Sideline staff

Long term most teams go to 5 or 6 Rerolls and hang around 14 players, the full squad of 16 is now pretty much a thing of the past except for the cheap lineman teams, especially once over 2 Million. Coaches/Cheerleaders tend to be taken on a personal preferences. Leader is very good as it's a 20-30K reroll. That helps reduce the pinch of Spiraling Expenses a little.
