Pro-Elf Skill Progression

Post by ClayInfinity »

After 3 games on an LRB5 league, my Pro-Elf team has become the following:

2 Blitzers (one with dodge, one with strip ball)
1 Catcher (with a +MA)
1 Thrower
5 Linelfs

(with 2 FF and 4 RR's and an apoth)

As you can tell, I will be using 2 journey elfs next time after a rather nasty encounter with a couple of DE assassins :(

Now 2 of my linelfs have skilled and both got +AV which I took because of the casualty toll building and apart from the DE team and a Fling team I have already played, the league is all bashers. Orcs next then Norse, Dwarves, Undead, Khemri and maybe a human team for a bit of relief.

It is clear I cant get the cash to buy catchers etc so I need to build the line elfs... and a few more are on the cusp of skilling up.

Should I go the traditional block dodge route or is it wise to look at fend and wrestle for the line elfs given the bashiness of the league?

Any tips, let me know, but I am 2-0-1 in the league and apart from the RIP's am going along OK.

Cheers,
Clay

Apart from the dwarves you shouldn't be facing much tackle, so dodge will be good imho

i'd also get kick on one, its really good at making it harder to form a cage, which you are going to have issues with

wrestle has its uses but your linemen aren't the fastest, and putting them on the floor doesn't seem a great idea to me, the rest of the team will still get out muscled

I think wrestle would be a good option over block, at least against block heavy teams like the Norse and Dwarves-personally i'd rather go down, take them with me than stay on my feet and be subject to another block (esp with AV7) or a possible crowd surf.

A lot depends (at least psycologically) on how much fouling is likely to happen to your players once they are on the deck, but I reckon the pretty high risk of your opo having a player sent off to take out a wrestle lino would mean that it would generally be in your favour, it's your blitzers and catcher who'll win you games and if he's fouling a lino instead, then that's good.

Ok, your MA of 6 isn't fast, but your likely opos will be slower, so taking 3 MA off them will slow them down more than you, which is a good thing. And you're AG4, so can easily dodge away.

Block would probably be better against the undead type teams cos certainly when i play with blockless ST4/5 guys, i always seem to roll both down and skulls, which would cause a turnover, which wrestle wouldn't have done.

Let us know what you picked and how you found it.

Actually, thinking about it, you don't have to use wrestle, so could force the turnover with a both down, it would just mean the possibility of an injury.

1 wrestle by itself is not terribly useful. Multiple wrestle is an absolute pain to play against. :pissed:

I agree lucifer...

But everyone is talking about wrestle... what about Fend?

I would have thought a fend would be ideal for elves to avoid the guy follow up a push and get 2d on the subsequent block?

Both skills would be great in numbers, but I thought fend first as the grapple does cost you 3 MA as well.
