Advice needed about my orc teams second purchase

Post by tomros »

I am very new to Blood Bowl, I have played only two games, and am playing an orc team. After my first game I purchased an apocathery which seemed like a smart move to me, now I am wondering if I should save my money untill I get the 120000 required and purchase a fourth reroll. Would the reroll be the best thing or should I pursue a better plan of action.

My team is as follows:

Da Gang Green

Four Blitzers
Four Black Orc Blockers
One Thrower
Two Lineorcs
Three Rerolls
Zero Fan Factor
Apocathery

I play primarily vs amazons but as my regular opponent and I have decided to both run two teams for added variety I will probably have humans or skaven as regular opponents as well.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated by a newbie trying his best.
Thanks,
Tom

The high AV of your Orcs will help to survive the games with only a few casualities, especially now you've got an apo.

I'd go straight for the 4th Reroll. In fact, I've always started my league orc teams with 4 RR's, since my Black Orcs tend to roll 'Both Down' only...

If you had a Troll in your team, I would have recommended buying some Goblins first (1 turn TD and generally more fun).

I'd probably buy the Troll next then the 4th RR.

I would instead advocate buying some cheerleaders and Assistant coaches and go for the in-game rerolls

I'd get the troll. You can always use your second skill up on your thrower to get Leader for that 4th RR (accurate should be the first choice).

Take the troll, I think he's really worth it, esp. against other bashy teams. Stick him in front of your opponents cage, they will have a very hard time removing hin with his ST5/AV9/Regeneration. Just don't depend on him, and only block with him after you have done all the important stuff so that it's not so bad when he causes a Turnover. And go for 3-dice blocks, this won't be too difficult esp. later when you have a few Guarders around.

Cheers

Yeah the troll sounds like the best option.

Notice you've gone for FF 0. Doesn't this impact badly on your winnings? Or does the new FAME system make FF less important in leagues?

Thanks for the advice. So it looks like most of you think the troll is the way to go. I do rather like the idea of having one of those magnificent bastards rolling around the pitch for me, and I have the old model of the troll with his hand out to the side and the skull gauntlet. I believe his name is Ripper Bolgrot, but I could be wrong.

@Loony Toadquack fan factor did not seem that important to me as having a higher fame really only nets you 10000 more in a game if you win and I felt like it would be cooler to build my FF through winning games not purchasing it.

I agree that a Troll is a good buy. A 2nd Thrower can be a lot of fun if you intend to play a lot of games with the team; a well-developed offensive Thrower (Accurate) and a well-developed defensive Thrower (Nerves of Steel) can give orc teams abilities that other grindy teams really lack.

An extra player or two is good because a) you can take the odd early casualty and still do your thing, and b) you can risk ejection on fouls once your blocking has weakened your opponent's position.

Oh, and your instinct to ignore FF is right. More money means you buy more stuff. More stuff bumps up your team rating/value. That gives opponents handicaps. Your major advantage as an Orc team is that no matter how well-developed your opposition, you never need more than 13 or 14 players. So that's about 2 guys on average that your opponent is paying for and you aren't. That's a lot of handicap. I remember in 3rd edition leagues, I'd start with money in my treasury so I didn't have to buy extra FF, and by game 8 or 9 I was hiring freebooter benchwarmers and buying re-rolls I didn't need just to burn cash and keep my TR low. You don't have to do that in 5th; instead, you can just let it pile up in treasury and ignore it until someone dies, but either way it's not doing you any good.

What is Nuffle's view? Through a window, two-by-three. He peers through snake eyes.
What is Nuffle's lawn? Inches, squares, and tackle zones: Reddened blades of grass.
What is Nuffle's tree? Risk its trunk, space the branches. Touchdowns are its fruit.
