Lots of doubles for Dark Elves
Well my Dark Elves lost their first game against Humans lastnight. It was a good game, and the humans were making some pretty ridiculous rolls left and right. On top of this the dice were not with me, as the 2+ dodges failed more than they succeeded.
I had 2 casualties inflicted on my team. The first was a lineman who suffered -1MA in the 2nd turn of the game, and the second was a blitzer that I ended up using my apothecary on. Three of my players received improvement rolls, and finally the dice seemed to be on my side as all 3 rolled doubles.
Here's my current roster:
Lineman - Dodge (7spp)
Lineman - Kick (6spp)
Lineman - Rolled doubles (7spp)
Lineman - (1spp)
Lineman - (1spp)
Lineman - -1MA (1spp)
Lineman - Block (6spp)
Blitzer - +1ST, Block, Dodge (17spp)
Blitzer - Block, Rolled Doubles/+1MA/+1AV (9spp)
Blitzer - Block, Rolled Doubles (6spp)
Witch Elf - Frenzy, Dodge, Jump Up, Block (7spp)
Re-rolls: 3
Apothecary
Cheer Leaders: 1
Assistant Coaches: 1
Treasury: 170,000gp
I was going to give the lineman Guard and the second Blitzer Mighty Blow. I'm still debating on what to do with the first Blitzer as all three of those options seem to be viable. At the moment our league consists of Orcs, Chaos, Humans, and High Elves. I'm also looking to pick up my 12th player and I am debating on either the 4th Blitzer or possibly giving one of the runners a try.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks!

What's with the blitzer with 9spp on his 3rd skill? Is that a typo?
At any rate, I'd give Guard to all 3 of them. I generally don't give Guard to Blitzers, preferring that as a line elf only skill, but with Orcs and Chaos (and to a lesser degree the humans too), you'll need the guard more than you would need Mighty Blow, for instance.
It's not all that sexy, but trust me, having 3 elves with Guard will be NICE.
As for your money expenditure, I think I would spend it all, you only have 11 players at present, and as noted your league is a bit on the rough side. I'd buy the 4th blitzer and a line elf. A runner and line elf would also be effective. If only you had another 10k, you could have a witch and line elf.
Given your opponents list, I wouldn't consider an assassin until after you've bought everything else, and even then he'd only be used sparingly most likely.
CORRECTION: Oh, I get it now. That blitzer rolled double 5's, so he could take +MA, +AV, OR a doubles roll. When I read it the first time, it looked like he already had MA and AV...
OK, anyway, with that in mind, I think I'd still take Guard, although you can't really go wrong with the other two options either.

I think your choices of guard and MB are good, although I'd probably take guard on them both. A lone guarder without block will probably die pretty soon. I've got an MA8 blitzer who I've found to be very useful, so I'd advise taking the MA on him.
Otherwise, I reckon a Runner would be a good idea-gives you a bit of variety in your plays and as your league looks pretty bashy, I'd imagine you'll be relying on the elves' spped and agility to win games. This is another reason to get the MA8 blitzer-increases your advantage in that area by quite a lot.

I appreciate the feedback everyone, thanks. I really like the idea of just giving all 3 guard and that does seem to make the most sense. I also think I will be spending the money on both a lineman and blitzer. Following that I'm thinking of getting the 2nd witch elf when the money is available, and finally a runner. Assuming of course that the players I already have survive.
I'm not a huge fan of the assassin in this league. Although, many of my opponents are afraid of me getting an assassin, so in the end I will probably pick one up as a scare tactic once the rest of the roster is filled out.

Getting another blitzer is a must, but I'd hold off on the lineman and save up for a runner. After all, you'll probably have to cut a player when you finally get that other runner or witchelf (you don't want 14 players, do you?).Zoot wrote:I appreciate the feedback everyone, thanks. Is it too late to put in 2¢? +MA, Guard, Guard. Can't go wrong with Guard, really can't go wrong in that bashy league, Mighty Blow is only really great in multiples, and MA8 is a ginormous advantage. Take a Blitzer or a 2nd WE (she comes with an obligation to give her two TDs as fast as possible, of course), plus an Apothecary on your roster -- your guys are starting to get valuable, and even if you are always getting enough inducements to hire an Apoth, a 50k investment in an Apoth gives you 50k free inducements every week.

I think in that league, with orcs and chaos half the time, I think I'd want 14 players. Maybe 15, if they are particularly violent. Besides, somebody will probably die and that "cut a player" think might just take care of itself.datalorex wrote:Getting another blitzer is a must, but I'd hold off on the lineman and save up for a runner. Is it a scheduled league? Do you know who your next opponent is? If you're playing the high elves next, then maybe it would be good to just get the blitzer or witch now, and save for a runner later. But if you're playing the orcs or chaos, I'd get two players, blitzer and line elf.

+MA is of course always beneficial. I'm still debating on the possibilities of either the +MA or Guard for that 2nd Blitzer. I'll have to give it more thought. Also, I already have an Apothecary and I had forgotten to put it in the roster above. I've updated it to reflect that. Thanks for the input.mattgslater wrote:Is it too late to put in 2¢? +MA, Guard, Guard. An MA8 player makes a great safety, and even from a not-especially-aggressive safety position he can score in two turns.

sorry i just really found that so random & funny
but yes. i agree with the general consensus, guard to all. the really hard hitters in your league (orcs and chaos can do a fair bit of damage) means your going to use the guard to get the precious extra block dice, alot, esepcially when facing st 4 chaos warriors. to get 2 extra ST in a block so you get the 2 dice block against them is vital

While that's possible (that's how I treat my rotters on my Nurgle team), if he wants to buy 2 runners, another WE, and an assassin (or 2), he doesn't need to be wasting his money on lineelves. Better to save the money and use the money on inducements. Zoot could always get a merc lineelf or even a merc position player if he really wants that extra player now. Why not get a merc Assassin and let your opponent be distracted by it to the point that he uses a lot of resources and time killing it. If he does, so what?wesleytj wrote:

Save the money. Don't buy a lineelf.

I’m slightly different with Delves any doubles on Lineelfs should get guard but I want one of my blitzers (you have four remember ) to be a big guy take outer.
Therefore I want him to have Dauntless, Mighty Blow, Pile On. So gotta be Mightly Blow on this particular one for me.
My 4p
