New old coach looking for advice

Post by HirnKhan »

Hi all,
after a 5-6 year break from BB I decided to join a newly formed local league. I was wondering whether any of you could give me some advice as to which team to choose based on the following:

Last I played was under the V3 rules. I had a Woodelf and a Chaos team. The Woodies never worked for me while the Chaos team ended up ruling the league.
I expect to play about 14 league matches against both bashy and stunty teams and a couple of cups.
What I am looking for is a challenging team, but not to the point where success depends solely depends on lucky dice rolls. I have looked at DE, Dwarves and Necros.
Dwarves seem to be the best starting team of the three, but very limited in that they only allow one playstyle, cuddleing up and moving slowly towards the line.
DE have reasonable AV and MA and assassins that could be fielded against lower AV teams later on.
Necros have a nice mix of high speed and armor and ok starting skills.
dwarves have the advantage over the other two that I's only have to buy one box to have my starting team, while the other two would require 2 boxes each.
Khemri might be another option.
All in all I guess I am looking for a team that does not die passing or starves on it's way to score a TD.
Any comments are welcome.

Thanks
Michael

Welcome.

Dwarves & Khemri are not what many people would class as a challenging team, both have very good win & CAS rates.

Dark Elves are a lot of fun and benefit from using a wide variety of tactics.

Necro are a little more straight forward but their expensive positionals are fun to use. They are under-powered right now and will be getting a boost in the next rule set.

The only other advice I'd give is to check out BBfigs.com as they sell full teams without wasting money on unneeded linos.

If the last time you played was 3rd Edition, then you might need to reread some of the skills, they are different.

When looking at Dark Elf and Dwarf, the real difference is the Frenzy. But I am sure it was Jump Up that also changed.

I play Dark Elves a lot. They are a slow developing team, but after you pass 6 or 7 games, they start getting pretty good and by game 14 they should be a fairly powerful team. And, they can be developed into either a passing or running team. Personally, I play them so that every single offensive play is a pass-option.

Dwarves start out really good, but they are very slow to develope further. And, you have one style offense at your command. Cuddle up and crunch down the field. That's it.

Necro are a lot more open than dwarves and they have more movement and the ability to get agility skills. With the Golems mixed in, they can turn into a powerhouse running team with a pass option to the wolves. And, they can be a real b*tch on defense. Wolves with claw and mighty blow are vicious.

And definately check out BBfigs.com. I've dealt with them a couple of times and they get the job done. (Not a plug for them, just helpful advice to a fellow gamer in need)

It's a Dark Elf world, we just let you live in it to provide fresh victims. - and I still want an Executioner to kill sauruses with.
