Blitzing the ball carrier

Post by kerrygray8 »

I suspect this is a nice simple query for 'those in the know', but my reading of the rulebook and searching of this forum has not turned up a definitive answer!

If I Blitz the ball carrier and knock him down, then follow up, what happens if the dropped ball bounces to my Blitzing player? Is he obliged to try and catch the ball or can he elect not to? If he tries to catch the ball and fails, does this cause a turnover?

Many thanks!

He MUST try to catch the ball (unless he has the No Hands skill)

No, it's only a turnover if team started with control of the ball, and lost it (which obviously they don't in this case).

NOTE: A failed catch on it's own is NOT a turnover - if it bounces to a team mate that catches it, that's fine. A loss (not lose!) of procession is a turnover.

I add that you can use a reroll for that catch throw :

- if it fails at first and that you want to get the ball
- if it succed at frist and you don't want to have it !! (when attempting for a one-turn TD for instance)

just to get a nice "1" when you try to pick up the ball with your surehandless thrower.

by the way, if you are trying for a one-turn TD, the ball shoud be in possession of one of YOUR players... or at least not in possession of one of your opponents!

Oh, but one-turn TDs are so nice when your opponent is crushed in your path to get the ball kicked to them.

If at first one doesn't succeed, and doesn't try again, then he will never succeed.
