My lizardmen team in our league

Post by Magictobe »

I am going to write a piece about my lizardmen team in our league. I am really excited about how things can work out.

First some details about the league and specific rules for the lizardmen.

First we draft the available teams. You bid each down until someone is "dumb enough" to play the team for this price. We do not work with inducements. You play the team for the price you have bid.

There is a handicap table with 48 (one D8 and one D6) possible outcomes.

We are with 12 players and we all play home and away.

Specific for the lizardmen. (s)kinky house rules!!

The lizardmen stadium :
level 0 (every stadium begins level 0): A special weather table
2 - 5 sweltering heat
6 - 8 perfect bloodbowl weather
9 - 12 pourring rain
Lizardmen are unaffected by pourring rain and sweltering heat because these are jungle weather.
Therefor skink cannot use there stunty skill in blizzard.
Level 1 : (an investment of 100.000 gp) The first d6 that the lizards throw is automaticly a 3.

Lizardmen wizard (150.000 gp): Once a game (before, during or after) you can determine the outcome of one dice.
For example : Use it to "guide" the handicap table. Or throw the 6 to intercept with a saurus. Or throw a 6 on winnings. Or (importantly) put a 6 and throw the next dice for a skink that gets a new skill. That means one chance out of 6 to roll +AG or +ST.

In the next reply I will state how I started and how the first two games went.

I went deep to get this team because I wanted them badly. I went down to 78 and was second lowest of all.

My choices maybe strange but I want to develop this team towards the playoffs to have a great team there. I will not score many points in the beginning but again want to develop the team.

Thats is why I started with following lineup.
3 suarus
1 skink
1 eggball (starplayer skink, cost 100.000 gp, skink with leader and block)
1 wizard
1 Apo
2 RR
6 FF
I kept two cheerleaders from the draft. Got them for free.

First game :
Away to the orcs. I was with 5, he was with 8 (4 BOB, 4 blitzers). Because he was playing home he received a handicap roll. Flu bug 2. My skink and one of my saurus got the flu. 3 Players and soon game ended. 2 - 0 loss for the lizards. To make things worse the MVP was awarded to my star player. (which raises price by 10.000gp for every 5 star player points)
Threw a 6 on winnings with wizards. 80.000 GP and bought a Saurus.

Second game :
Home vs Chaos: Against 7 beastmen. Both a handicap roll. He got extra MVP before the game. I had the option to put 12 men on the pitch during the first drive. A good game ended in 1 - 1 draw.
Nothing got a skill. A skink scored the TD, a saurus got a CAS and a saurus got the MVP.
100.000 winnings. Bought another saurus

Next game will be against the pro elves.

The league specific rules are pretty, no, very intriguing! Perhaps they are most worthy of discussion, too, but let's address your team development for now.

What are your investment plans?

The low number of players seems very vulnerable to injuries. (I was surprised to read that fielding less than 11 players would be accepted for rookie teams, actually.) You can't hope to protect all of the skinks adequately, so maybe you should get some more reserves. But perhaps you'd rather go for more RRs first, if the number of players actually works out OK? I'd think the stadium upgrade could probably wait a while.

The Mage-Priest wizard (or is that a skink priest) sounds totally awesome. I'd say just keeping that ace face up and unused on the table should be pretty unnerving to your opponents. :)

With the draft system, everybody has not many players and cannot field 11 players. That is why it is not that kind of a problem. That is also a raison why I invested in the high armour saurussen in stead of the low armour, stunty skinks. When I have 5 players on the pitch, I prefer armour 9 above armour 7  . Another side effect is that it improves the chances for the MVP's to go to the saurussen.
Last year I started with 6 wood elves  .

Investplans. I will probably have the money to invest in 2 skinks after the game against the pro elves (who probably will be with 6, max 7) The game after the pro elves is against the Goblins.

The league rules are great to play with. Every race has it's own stadium and there are some wizards that are not in any rule book.

The plan with the wizard is to use him post match. To improve the skinks with stat increase or to get the money in the start of the competition. I will probably use the wizard during the game during the playoffs. Then I need results on the pitch.
The wizard was one of the reasons to take this team. I played with wood elves last year. I built a whole year on a very good team just to see the wrong handicap roll in the semi final. The handicap roll was "old wounds never heal". My players with NI could not play the game. That included my 4 top players. That was hard to lose that game. With my wizard, I can stop that by controlling the dice.

@PubBowler : Indeed eggball is great. The problem is he has armour 7 and stunty. Because I started with him and I do not have many players in the start, I hope I can keep him till the playoffs. When he would die during regular season, I cannot buy him back being a star player.

I played my third game.

I was with 5 sauri, one skink and my star player skink. I played against 8 pro elves without any skills.

I had to play the second half without any skink. But won the match. I won 2 - 1. I had to use my wizard to stop a blitzer hitting my saurus with the ball in his last turn.

Two skills after the match.
The saurus rolled a normal skill and give him Mighty Blow. To skill up faster.
The skink rolled an +AG!!!!!!! :o :o WAUW!!!!!! Lucky me. He misses next match and it will be hard to defend him. He needs to survive another 19 matches to make it to the playoffs.

I had enough money to buy another skink. So next match again with 5 suari, a skink and star player skink. Next match is against goblins.

Played fourth and fifth game.

Fourth game against goblins. Too bad I did not hit a lot of CAS. Lost 2 - 1. My skinks were quickly out of the match.
Bought a 6th saurus.

Fifth game against necromantic. Start of the competition so the necro's had 10 zombies and 1 werewolf (dodge, +AG).
The werewolf took a blitz on my AG skink. Both down. Skink survived but werewolf went KO and did not return for the rest of the game. He only had zombies left so easy 2-0 victory for me.
A rookie skink got a double and I gave him Block. (wauw, second skill for my skinks, first was +AG and now another skink got block, nice rolls, I know)
I had enough money to buy a kroxigor.

It has been a while but yesterday had some result I wanted to share with everybody.

First some catching up to do.

Had a game against high elves. My opponent had one handicap roll. Flu bug 3 so not really a game. Lost 0 - 4.

Then a game against nurgle. My players did not want to pick up the ball so lost 0 - 1.

Yesterday played against dark elves. Won 2 - 1. But the rolls after the game are amazing. Three skill increases.
My rookie skink rolled dubbel and got block.
My rookie saurus rolled dubbel 6 and got ST5.
My saurus with Mighty Blow rolled dubbel 6 and got ST5.

After the game, I had enough money to buy the Kroxigor.
Wauw, nice X-mas gift there. :smoking: :smoking:

Now I have
6 sauri, 2 with ST5 (one of them has mighty blow) and 4 with ST4 (one of them has mighty blow)
1 kroxigor
6 skinks (my star player, one with AG4 and two with block) Indeed not one casual stat increase on the skinks.

Now I need some block on my sauri because they are causing a lot of turn overs.

Next game is against humans and will be played the first sunday of 2009.

I got a question about how my team was doing so here is the reply I send.
I did not respond anymore because there was not that manny response.

They are doing really really good. I am almost winning all of my matches and climbing in the standings. I had a bad start but that was tottally expected. We do not work with inducements so at the beginning I was starting with lots of sauri but almost no skinks  .

Team :
Saurus 6419 Mighty Blow, Pilling on 21 spp
Saurus 6519 Block 25 spp
Saurus 6519 Block, Mighty Blow 36spp
Saurus 6419 Block Mighty Blow 28spp
Saurus 6419 Mighty Blow 7 spp
Saurus 6419 Breack Tackle 6 spp
Eggbal (star player skink) 8237 Block, Dodge, Leader, Stunty
Skink (SUPER SKINK, unbelievable) 8348 Dodge, Stunty, Side step, Sure feet - Magic Helmet 56 spp
Skink 8238 Dodge, Stunty, Block, Side step - Magic helmet 22 spp
Rookie skink
Skink 8237 Dodge, stunty, side step
Rookie skink
Krox with stand firm and niggling injury

Yes, three +ST. I was very lucky this year. :smoking: The super skink is taking most of the TD now.

Wizard is working out fine, even so strong that he will be changed towards next year. He was working out fine for three years but he will be changed now.

My stadium is working out fine as well. Got level 1 now so first D6 of a drive is automatticly a 3. That helps. No need of sure hands!!

I am currently 4th out of 12. 5 games to go so top three should go. Maybe second place. And then the playoffs.

About the rules, I only have the dutch version because there is no english version.

You can follow standings here
http://hqbloodbowl.forumup.be/viewtopic ... qbloodbowl
This is our forum. It is also only in Dutch.

I am Skinky Winky.

Next match is against the Nurgle. Bring them on

I had to take him from the start. I had 780k to start a team so that RR he brought with him had to come from the start.

Two strength increase in sauri. These were thrown after the game against the dark elves. I had two in a row (with different dice so no loaded once)

That skink is even worse. Strength and agility on a skink. AMAZING !censored! of a skink.

One thing that will help keep Super Skink alive is working to skill the others. A bunch of Skinks with SS can keep each other safe to some extent, especially with that super-nasty Saurus mob.

I am hoping to skill them up, but it is hard to make the call to score with other skinks when you have an AG 4 skink running around.

The point system is
0 When you lose with two points difference.
1 When you lose with one point
2 for a tie
3 when you win with one point
4 when you win with 2+ points

When I am in the lead enough I score with other skinks.

I just found out that I have been censored in last reply. Sorry for abuse language  Was just stating a point
