Football positions

Post by El_Jairo »

Hi there,

I'm from Europe and don't know too much about the football positions people relate to when talking tactics. Like ILB and nose and safety and all that stuff. Quarteback, that I know already, that the thrower :)

Can someone explain to me what the position in offence and defence means and what function the player has.

Or is there a thread or site were I can find this info?

Thank you for taking your time!

heh it would be easier if people just stopped using those terms as a suggestion of what to develop a player into and instead used a bloodbowl term

I do watch the nfl and I don't really get the correlated terms at time, a safety and a linebacker mean the same thing to me for blood bowl tbh

players are rarely that specific in teams from my perspective

I can get where there are obvious similarities (receivers and blockers) and sometimes it makes sense to talk about a safety if you're talking about your last line of defense but there's plenty of cases where there just isn't a matching NFL position for how a player is used (a case in point is my witch elf).

I imagine most readers will have a familiarity with the NFL so it cuts some corners to describe a player in terms of a position but I think the numbe rof cases where you can do that effectively is very limited.

You cant apply these terms in Blood bowl it doesn't make any sense. It just causes confusion. Keep American Football terms out of Blood Bowl!

I would absolutely agree with the others in this thread stating that football positions should be kept out of BB. It is over generalizing and unnecessarily confusing for many outside the US. I'm a close fan of American Football as well and there's been several times on here where I've found comparison to football positions to be banal and too assuming that the reader would have even a base knowledge of positions.

However, to answer your question, here's a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_f ... _positions It should answer your questions. Keep in mind that, unlike football, BB teams often don't have the personnel to cover all football positions (nor really should they, as they're playing BB and not football).
