Slann development: Blitzer question

Post by SBG »

Hi guys!

I made a couple of research and looked at all the MBBL slann roster. Seems all the rage is Block as a first skill (9 out 30 blitzers chose it, not counting stats increases), but is it really the way to go?

I have two blitzers on the team, ont leveled after the first game. Should I go MBlow Piling On with one and Block Guard with the other, or would you suggest otherwise?

Seems to me that with their GAS access, there's too many routes to go!

As I see it, there are two main paths.

1 = Dodge first. These guys are so expensive they a) need to survive and b) need to go where they are needed so they can use DT. I gave one guy dodge before I stopped playing in the MBBL, and it transformed him. He actually became useful!

2 = Mighty Blow. The other main problem with blitzers is they skill up sooo slowly. So give them MB and they actually have a chance of getting all those skills that in theory seem so cool.

I'd never give them Block first (unless I was developing a killer). Wrestle is the skill of choice for Slann (to take down ball carriers).

Block makes alot of sense if you're going down the "passive terror" route... block/dodge/sidestep/guard.

Block also makes sense if you're going for a killer... block/frenzy, MB, PO, Juggernaught.

Block makes very little sense if you're going for a ball hunter. However, I dont think I'd ever go down this route because you have a ton of linemen who are perfect for the role. The only reason I can see for choosing wrestle over block is that it combines well with JU. Personally I see JU as a secondary consideration in comparison to the other specialist skills that the blitzers can take.

Not sure if I'd take it as a first skill but I'd probably plan for it early in most blitzer's development.

Yeah, good points Peter. It's hard to get out of the mindset that blitzer means ball hunter. They do different roles in a Slann team (killer or safety).

I think it might be interesting to develop a Slann team along basic lines (linemen & catchers only to start) and then add on Blitzers as killers. A developed Slann team with 1 or 2 murderous blitzer types might be very scary.

Yep. Currently I use the kroxigor as my murderous killer so I'd probably go for a few support blitzers before I went for a killer. Ideally you have both though I cant really see a way to get it besides having a very old team.

Really? I would develop my Krox as a roadblock / juggernaut if he needs to be reliable.

Guard and piling on all the way :D

Its not quite as good as a frenzy/block/mightyblow/pilingon blitzer but a piling on krox does a similar job and is alot easier to get. Dont think I would ever get juggernaught on a non frenzy/WA big guy though :)
