Skill ring colour conventions
I was just wondering whether any firm skill ring colour conventions have developed yet for tournaments. This isn't so relevant for leagues, as skill distribution and selection is much more varied their. For example many players have more than one skill. Are there still lots of people going their own way? Or has a meme developed? Alliterative use seems common (e.g. blue = Block). The only two I have seen so far that are close to uniform are:
Lime green = Guard
Blue = Block
The Guard one is interesting, as I think the lime green is one of the most visible colours and Guard is probably the skill you want to be able to visualise on the board quickly. The are several shades of blue though, and I have seen them all used for Block.
Any I've missed? I quite like transparent yellow for Dodge and amber for Wrestle. Something in me like opaque green for Tackle for some reason, and opaque red for skills I don't like on my opponent's team (MB, Strip Ball, Frenzy).

There seems to be a predominance of white when using sure hands and kick. Or at least there was when it was just the basic six colour set.

Re: Skill ring colour conventions
Iirc I used red for MB (=blood), lime green for tackle (so it stood out for me), dark green for guard (alliteration and it looked more 'solid' than the lime one) and brown for block (alliteration and lack of blue ring).
And Joe? You're such a nerd.

I just use whatever colours to hand, though the yellow and orange one normlly represent any skill I've taken twice.
Could probably do with getting another set tbh.

I use whichever ones I haven't managed to lose yet
But alliteration is good, as is offensive colours (red/orange) for offensive skills and greeny for defensive skills. Bright as possible for guard. Kick/leader/KOR etc often don't get skill rings. In league play black is common for niggles etc round our way.

Slime green = side step / sure hands / sprint / sure feet / strip ball / stand firm / sillyness
I do tend to use the alliteration method, but you can't always do that obviously ;]
personally i find the colours that likto use for the range a bit limited and also kinda overpriced for what they are so i've only got the one set and don't even have all of their limited range
on a side note from now on when I play joe I'm going to use the most illogical choices possible

i just use whatever is at hand, however, if I give several players the same skill (say block on 3 ghouls) i use the same colour on them all.

Alliteration.
You cant use a set method because everyone has different skills and skill rings.... I'm not sure that dwarf coaches want to get six packs just so they can have green ones for each guard player. Also, this thread reminded me of this other thread

Wash your mouth out Peter!
I actually did buy an extra pack of both lime green and blue in case I had multiple Guard/Block. Seen plenty of others with this too.

Re: Skill ring colour conventions
Within the GBBL there is a commonly accepted use of the skill rings:
Blue - Block
(Lime Green) - Guard
Red - "Danger" i.e. Tackle or Mighty Blow
Transparent (aka White) - Wrestle

Re: Skill ring colour conventions
I like either shade of green for guard and blue for block (except against Joe in the future
). After that it's whatever comes first out of the bag I own.
I like the translucent red, so that usually ends up representing one skill in most games.

Re: Skill ring colour conventions
That's odd I thought it was position rings.
Normally we use:
Green - Thrower or similar position
Red - Blizer
Yellow - Catcher/Runner 0r fast movement
Black - Line or equivalent
White - alternative line
Blue - Special position BO or DE Assassin
Silver - for any thing that is not noted.
Traditionally the field has: Thrower, Blitzer, Catcher, Line (Green, Red, Yellow, Black).
This allows quick recognition for both coaches.

Re: Skill ring colour conventions
I normally use red for block (as red is the base ring color for Blitzers, which have also block) and whatever is the most visible for Guard.

They're talking about skill rings to show players with additional skills, not the base colours to denote position.Smurf wrote:That's odd I thought it was position rings.
