4th skill for orc blitzer/runner...

Post by Ithilkir »

He currently looks like this: 7/3/3/9 - block, sure hands, pro, (+1 MA). Just a regular skill for his advancement... And I'm kinda stumped. Tempted with guard but really can't think of how to progress him :)

Assuming you want him to run with the ball in a lot of plays Guard might be useful - then he can give an assist to a player making a Block/Blitz to free him up from a tackle zone.

Alternately if you find him Blitzing his own hole regularly how about Tackle.

4th skill

i always found stand firm usefull. i know the rules have changed, but to be able to fail a dodge and stay standing is a cool ability, especially if you are carrying the ball

Can't take Stand Firm, it's a trait :(

Guard looks to be the pick so far anyway

http://nkelsch.planet3k.com/default.aspx I just edited the colours to make it closer to my Orc team :) (and 'converted' the blitzer in my avatar)

You have a fair amount of tackle, and more than enough Guard for an Orc team. Have you considered Kick? This blitzer looks like he will be playing off of the line in any case, and you might be surprised at how much more effective your defense becomes when you can pin your opponent deep in their own territory.

With that movement up, Strip Ball is very good; you become a safety terror that MUST be respected anywhere on the field. All you need is a 1 die push and you have a huge defensive play. Since he already does everything he needs to on offense, why not make him a defensive terror too?

I assure you that your opponent will try to avoid whatever side of the field he is on, giving you a tactical advantage as well. Speed teams that usually laugh at your slowness will now think twice before breaking out for that 2nd turn score, and slower teams will have a diffult time playing ball control since they MUST account for him.

Guard is GREAT for Blitzers, but with MA7, I have a feeling he finds himself making solo plays frequently...Tackle might be better for him than Guard, but I still like Strip Ball on that guy...I certainly wouldn't want to play against him!

Hmm, loathe to have a second blitzer with strip ball, but it is an optionI'm now considering. Might be helpful to let you know the other blitzers however :)

7 3 3 9 block, tackle, mighty blow, +1 MA, pro
6 3 3 9 block, tackle, dodge
6 3 3 9 block, strip ball, tackle, mighty blow

Rest of the team can be found in the link on my sig (only change is the other guarding lineman with block now).

Kick is a good idea aye.. Never thought about it, but certainly a decent option :)

Hmmmmmmm.. choices, choices.. No rush to pick anyway heheh.

One Strip Ball is enough, but 2 never hurts. Still, Guard is what I would give him looking at your other Blitzers.

With all that piling on I have to wonder how often your Black Orcs suffer to block/pows. But thats not the issue here. I would advise Guard as well. I can't beleive you don't have more of it. Block then guard is my standard orc skill tree. Third skill gets more job specific.

(I took guard for the record).

As for the piling on, it was a double bonus, you'd be surprised at the effort people go to get out the way of a group of S4 PO'ers freeing up more space for movement.

As for lack of block, when you roll 2 blocking dice, I might not be able to get an opponent down, but there is a good chance I'll stay up with the second dice coming up a pushback or POW.

And for the record, in the last game my 6/3/3/9 Block, dodge, tackle Blitzer just got +1AG (and an aging niggle), and a 4/4/2/9 piling on, Bob got +1 ST.

Oh and the reason I don't have more guard is having no real need for it. I've been lucky to get two Linemen with doubles to get Guard, so I have been able to specialise my Blitzers sooner, then I can worry about getting guard when other teams in the league gain more muscle.
