What next for a tooled up Gutter Runner?
I've not played a long term league before so getting players picking up their 4th or 5th skills is a new one for me.
I've a GR that just picked up a normal skill, he's already got: Dodge, Wrestle, Side-Step & Guard
As a ball-retriever he could use Tackle or Strip Ball (I only have one tackle on the team and no strip ball) but he's not the primary guy to hit the ball carrier and with Side-Step already I could add Diving Tackle or Shadowing to make him a real pain (they just seem like very limited use skills).
Leap and Jump-Up are great, I certainly like the idea of leaping into a cage for a guard assist!

I think shadowing would be very useful here. With MA9 you have a very good chance of it working, SS means he can't easily be blitzed off, and it has a good chance of creating a turnover or putting guard somewhere your opponent doesn't want it. I wouldn't take leap with AG4. Jump Up works well with wrestle, but I think will be more limited in use than shadowing. DT will also increase the odds of a TO.

What do your other Gutter Runners look like? Dauntless might be ok if you don't have other GR's with Wrestle+Dauntless+Strip Ball and face a lot of Sure hands.
If this rat had Block, then I'd recommend Diving Tackle, but with Wrestle he's a lot easier to shake off a player. Diving Tackle would go well with Guard as a more passive threat, especially with Side Step. Side stepping diving tacklers are always a pain.

I agree with the previous posters, it's either Diving Tackle or Shadowing for this rat. I'd say DT is higher power overall, but on a MV9 piece, Shadowing might actually be great. You can't go wrong with either though.

I think Shadowing is wasted on this rat. Either someone's happy to hit him in the first place or then he's blitzed off first.

A) 8,2,4,7 Dodge, Block, Side-Step, Guard
B) 10,3,4,7 Dodge, Block, Horns
C) 9,2,4,7 Dodge, Wrestle, Tackle
D) 9,2,4,7 Dodge, Wrestle, Side-Step, Guard <-- the guy who just skilled up
I'd not take Dauntless on D as generally either B is going to hit (with ST3 + Horns) or C is going to hit (with Wrestle/Tackle). I suppose this helps make my mind up as strip ball and tackle are less use for this player as others are usually lining up the shots. C is heading for strip ball next probably, I've no idea for B as every time I think I've decided he goes and throws a double or a stat increase!
So it's looking like Shadowing or Diving Tackle, DT is a bigger impact but you only get the one shot at it, having to roll several times for shadowing (plus having the GR on the spot afterwards) might be more effective.
I can see him getting both eventually, but if building a side-stepping, shadowing, DT'er I'd prefer to have block to keep him on his feet so maybe A is a better choice for that build?
Maybe two side-stepping, shadowing, DT'ers work well together?

What would you give him?Ullis wrote:I think Shadowing is wasted on this rat. Either someone's happy to hit him in the first place or then he's blitzed off first.
With shadowing the intent is that he can go and mark an opposition receiver (I can only knock over one of these per turn so someone needs to cover the other ones).

To perfect the Shadowing you also need Sidestep and Tackle.
Then that is a Shadowing nightmare.
Normally it requires the marked player to blitz away or some else coming in to knock the quy away. Shadowing is good becuase you get to chase people down.
Remember the Shadow roll vs MA6 would be 10 or less success (16-9=7). A failure in 1:12.
IMO bloody nightmare.
