Blodger pro ogre rolls ANOTHER double

Post by stenfot »

The cyanide ogre in viewtopic.php?f=25&t=35677 has rolled yet another double! I just can't believe it.

As you can see I was naughty and went for pro despite the overwhelming win by sure hands in the poll. I already have an +mv +mv ogre and a +ag ogre, so this one won't be the ball carrier. And, I love pro, so I don't regret that. Because of the other ball carrier ogres I'm still not too interested in sure hands, although I haven't ruled it out. Only met one team with strip ball so far.

The ogres on the team:

1 +ag, [normal skill roll]
2 +2 ma, break tackle, stand firm
3 block, guard, stand firm
4 block, grab, guard, multiple block
5 noob
13 block, dodge, pro, [double skill]

The snots are useless, accept for one +ag (and niggling, sadly).

So, what do I go for on the blodger? I'm actually considering taking guard or stand firm. The teams I face are mostly(/only) bashers, because of the high tv (1950), which makes tackle less useful. Accurate followed by strong arm could be very useful for ttm (especially because of pro), but I'm really not convinced that would be worth it.

I'm thinking about taking accurate on the +ag ogre instead, and then getting me a diving catch snot.

Is diving tackle on the blodger an alternative? Imagine him with bt dodging in to a cage and holding on to everyone, standing up with help from some guards. :)

Tackle, because you'll face Dodge eventually or Diving Tackle because it's epic with or without dodge and most will be trying to get away from you. Sidestep as an outside choice as well, on a Pro Blodger it could be useful.

On matchmaking - Frenzy. It is a poor mans tackle, and it also works on people without dodge. :p

Also try to roll a normal skill on him next time for break tackle ;)

Get use to thowing snot at ball carriers when needed. It's hilarious.

IIRC the snots are actually good a ball marking, picking up the ball to be handed off.

I went for frenzy on the blodging, pro monster. Strong arm for the +ag ogre.

Frenzy helped me crowd surf one gentleman (chaos warrior) in the first game. Strong arm helped me complete a one turn touch down. Almost. The idiot snotling landed on his head dispite rr (the +ag niggling snot was of course in the cas pile). I won the game and am therefore happy with the skills I picked. :)

The ogres on the team now look like this:

1 +ag, strong arm
2 2 * +ma, break tackle, stand firm
3 block, guard, stand firm, rolled eleven
4 block, grab, guard, multiple block
5 noob
13 block, dodge, pro, [double skill]

Snots without skills, accept:
7 sneaky git
10 +ag (and niggling, sadly).
16 just rolled double.

So, +ag on ogre #3? I have, on my table top team, been dreaming about +ag for so long it feels wrong turning it down here. But, at the same time, I feel that I already have more ball carriers than I need (the speed ogre and the +ag strong arm ogre). So, if not +ag, then what? Break tackle? Piling on wouldn't be wrong, I guess, but I often find myself in need of the tackle zones. On the other hand, with my new frenzy ogre maybe I can get the "kill all opposition"-game rolling, something that hasn't worked out for me yet.

On the snot I'm actually considering hail mary. I liked it on my table top team, but I didn't have access to the same speed on that team as on this one. Otherwise I imagine sure hands could be helpfull (more than often I find my original ball carrier on the ground).
Leader is of course a nice alternative. Dauntless is another quirky choice.

Take the AG. And leader on the snot. that's a40k saving on a re roll right there. Or get yourself a fouler and go with dirty player (next up sneaky git) no wardancer will be safe on the floor. Nothing is as much fun as clearing a high value piece with a disposable piece of trash.

If you cannot stall out for an 8 turn drive to score with dwarves then you need to go and play canasta with your dad..if you can find him.

Agree on the AG.

Leader on a snot, I can see that, but I would be too afraid to lose that RR, cause snot die so quickly... DP seems more fun too, you have the cheapest DP in the game, and a snot fouls just as good as anyone

And at least, with DP, he will last longer as he will hide in the jail :D

Put it this way. Leader Snot steps out, uses leader and then either it's a TD and bench time or foul like crazy with it to get it removed. Ok he may come out in the second half but after that reroll is used just get the guy ejected from the game.

So you don't get it for the 2nd half it you foul with him, so it is effectively half a RR, for 30k instead of 35k. Not a bad choice, but not that fantastic either

Well you can try and bench him to the second half after he has used his reroll. Just that in the 2nd half, after the reroll, try and get him off the pinch before your opponent does.

Ok, so my block, dodge, pro, frenzy ogre skills up. He rolls... double! This is getting really retarded. Would have loved to have those doubles spread out on all ogres, getting six blockers, but this is... fun?

So, now I'm seriously considering making him the ball carrier and give him sure hands. I guess that would please the people here :)
After that there is only one skill left to roll, at 175 spp. Need to take break tackle then. Would have loved to have stand firm on him, since he could then be put on the line (after crowdpushing with frenzy or to make caging easier.

Any other thoughts or suggestions?

So, you must be playing this team on Cyanide against the computer? Otherwise, hats off to how incredibly fast you've managed to progress this player - remarkable!

Having Frenzy on your ball-carrier ogre is somewhat less than ideal, because if he ever needs to blitz free he may end up having to step into another marked area (assuming your opponent is playing astute defense). Nonetheless, people probably won't be too keen to mark this guy, but then you need to wonder if you want your Block/Frenzy ogre spending entire offensive drives removed from the violence as he carries the ball around.

At this point, I'd perhaps take Diving Tackle (just to make ppl less inclined/able to dodge away). He becomes a more effective roadblock as well, as with all that titchy high-agility teams just love to dance circles right through all your formations anyways. After that, I'd probably then take Tackle. Awesome roadblock AND killer piece, as with Frenzy/Tackle he's a good blitzer and with Diving Tackle his marked victims are less likely to get away.
