Travellers Greebo " Sno" Team

Post by traveller »

Image

Just finished the Sno-Team from Greebo Miniatures.
Nice team, just after painting the quite easy to paint faces of Halflings
those Norse faces are a bit difficult to paint.

First time i used a transparent crackle paint for ice bases. Not perfect happy with those bases.
Here is a tutorial i mainly used
Next time i will test it a bit more before using it! Still not bad for the first time.

This team i didnt safe varnished because i want to keep the sparkling of the ice and snow.

You can't do something like paint on varnish on the edges?

Have been looking at that team as seem quite a decent theme to them. Not convinced about their wolves though as not "wolf" enough for me!

How were they to paint?? am a bit of a novice and if faces are tricky may put me off!

Love the base theme too, do you cut them off the slot and glue to the ice effect direct or does that cause problems??

The faces are no more tricky than usual.
Just the faces of willy miniatures Halfling were more easy to paint. IMO.
For the eyes you will need calm hands.

I just used the normals slotta bases and painted the crackle paint around the mini.

As I normal spray the varnish it would be all over. A resolution: varnish the mini before basing.
But I just plain forgot this.

Nicely done (as usual!).

Trav, do you have the GW 3rd ed Norse team? If so, could you post some size comparison photos? I'm planning a Norse team and have all the positionals but still haven't found a linemen set that I like. These look like they could be the ones, but I'm concerned by the size of them.

Nice work! I especially like the shade of blue next to the skin shade you used. And the yeti looks great in white. I've been working on this team as well, but mine doesn't look half as good as yours does. I'm also hoping to use that ice technique, though I got the bases with the indentations on top to experiment with. If it works, I may try to make a whole pitch...

Darkson haven't got a comparison pic but placing them alongside 3rd ed darkelves, skellies and humans they appear to be only marginally bigger scale -- does look slightly bulkier -- wouldn't look out of place...

Probably not much help and hopefully Traveller will be able to provide a scale pic

Worry not! Create a mask with painter's tape or patafix/blu-tack putty to protect the ground. Worst case you will lose a bit of the effect around the feet. Or err in the feet side, covering them a bit too, as they should hardly be every touched and thus lack of varnish would be minor problem compared to unprotected paint in arms or head.

Nice job Traveller. The colours you chose work really well.

I've got this team (still unassembled though) but also bought the Willy Ulfs to use as the Ulfwereners.

That's exactly what I was looking at doing! :-) Do they look right size wise side by side?

Cheers Trav - they look ok, so I think I've probably found what I'm looking for (at last). Now just need to get the money together to order some!
