Rolljordan/Manorhouse new gaming mats

Post by molten »

Yesterday I managed to pick up the first few sets of the new gaming mats...

They are flexible, can be painted (the paint won't come off), they are rigid but soft at the same time, your figs will be safe and wont chip falling on it.
Heavy 2.3 pound each. We have a video where wearing work boots we clean our feet on them causing no damage....

This is a painted example, but it doe not give justice to it. I will post a few pics and videos very shortly.

I should put up some pics tonight or tomorrow. They are matt black.

Here is a video of the first cast, has some minor defects on the border and it was actualy a bit thinner of the final product. But will give you an idea of how strong it is.

http://youtu.be/Z711loGwTl4

Characteristics:

1) Soft like rubber, will not damage the figures
2) Can be rolled for transportation.
3) Can be painted and the paint will not come off.
4) It has a 3D texture
5) Heavy 2.2 pounds/1kg so steady on the table, the back will not slide easily on table surfaces giving stability,
6) 100% water and humidity proof
7) It can be easily customized with your logo or colors.
8) It will not crack or deform with normal use :) not sure if you run on it with a tractor or vehicle.
9) 100% safe (the product is tested in labs and chemical safety sheet is present, does not contain unsafe material or banned materials)
10) much more still testing it...

We are waiting on the final calculations to be done, but between 45 or 50€ to the public + shipping (main problem is shipping probably between 15 and 20€ with it being a bit above 1kg alone)

The field is 60x80cm 23.5"x31.5" , and is virtually indestructible, also once painted the paint will not come off.

On the Kickstarter is now available at $49.00/35€ as an add -on and free shipping. This will save you about 42$ when buying a team.
This is possible since the shipping cost will be partially absorbed by the team shipping cost.
Or alone shipped to Europe and the US for 78$/56€ shipped to the US and Europe.

Reassuringly expensive... AsI posted on the KS, any way to bring the cost down? A KS just for them for instance? How many would you need to make it a cheaper order? At that price if I didn't need to roll it up I would be more tempted for something like this http://wargamesterrainworkshop.co.uk.pr ... 28mm-scale

Hy Chris as said on the KS this is a completely different product from the one you mentioned.
Not sure it can be seen but this field has a 3D texture to it. As far as I know only no other field on the market have this feature.
All the tiles have indents and details that go up to 3 mm in thickness.
Also the material is soft to the touch (not too much) so it will not scratch or damage miniatures when they fall on it or are set in a prone position.
Add to it that this field is virtually indestructible... you can use it as a door mat (I do challenge any other field to do what we did in the video)
And add the fact that can be easily painted at your like because of the surface. Anyone can do it with a brush just like painting a miniature.
The paint will not come off once painted also. Acrylics are a bit less strong on it, (GW paint) but still will hold hundred of games before deteriorating a bit. And you can always paint it over again.
The price is 78$ shipped yes seems a lot, but the one you mention is 110$ that is 33% more expensive, but comparison doesn't really apply since they are totally different items.
And if you buy a team it will be only a 49$ making it 55% cheaper then the one you mentioned.
Last we are working on a set of accessories to set on it to make a full stadium, or just add 3dimensional dug outs. Manorhouse is well known for his high qulity stuff.

And again, I love the field you showed me in the link is a marvelous creation, but they are two completely different products.

Yeah didn't realise shipping - I would pick one up at a show and avoid it - the base prices of the two items then are pretty similar.

Still would you consider a ks for just the field?

Not sure about a KS, these may be the first and only we make it will all depend on the request for them.

First, I like what I've seen of the pitch. I am interested in getting one.

However,

1) When you attach the 3d dugouts you talk about, does the pitch still roll up? I'm guessing no, but I need to see those pieces before committing to purchase.
2) Adding it on to a kickstarter with only 2 weeks left to run is frustrating. I don't have the funds to pledge and I won't have before the kickstarter ends. Which is a shame for both of us.

Congratulations on the kickstarter funding though!

To point out the obvious, if some people plump for them now would reduce demand for a seperate KS. Really if you can work out how many you would need to sell to make it say £35 + p&P per mat, maybe that is more of a price point to sell a load?

this looks like a major step in getting good, high quility pitchs out. this product looks great, seems very durable, and good value for the money.
i'm sold.

Wow! Seeing the mat and the videos, I'm sold. I just pledged the $78 gaming board on Kickstarter. I'm building a 3D board from scratch, but that gaming mat will come in super handy.

About the price: thinking about the cost of living in Europe, or other hobbies for that matter - like vintage cars or the like - I find the cost of the mat more than reasonable. This has to be the lowest-cost hobby I've ever had! :)

Seems the board is pulled - I think the right idea, I will definitively be in for one later, 2 if the price can come down a bit.
