Lustrian Premier League, round 3

i know martyn probably won't want me to mention it, but trafe united is frighteningly close to having a good outing... with just a couple turns left int eh first half we're _only_ down 1-0 and have, for what may be the first time in team history, advanced teh ball into the opposing half... in fact, a few gfi's and a decent hole, and they might even score what may be their only goal of the season (before or after this game, i'd bet)...

more importantly, emerging star minotaur blitzer meat n' cheese has been running absolutely amok in the destructor backfield all afternoon, and has recorded three casualties already, including two fatalities! if he keeps playing like that, maybe we won't roast him after the game afterall...

i'll have to enjoy the next few turns, this team is such utter crap that it might be the highlight of my season, ans something tells me the table will turn in the second half, as normality returns to the game...

The file you sent me Phil didn't have your turn in it, so I knew you'd caused more damage but not what. In some ways its better to hear via the messageboard, since I deal with the whole depression of my woeful performance well before I see the file.

Given the tabletop games I played at the w/e and the way this game is going, it has to be said that I can be dreadfully bad at times at this game.

don't worry martyn, i'm pretty terrible myself...

do whaty i do, get really good at painting and modelling, people are always too enthralled by great minis to notice how bad i play... doesn't work too well in pbem, though, them good coaches always make me feel like an idiot...

Sadly I'm not that great a painter or modeller... though I am improving.

Playing PBEM against the excellent coaches out there does make me feel like a complete idiot at times... which is frustrating since I know I am not an idiot. The trouble is that I can find no way of learning how to play this game better.

Best way i know to learn this game is still by playing it in person. Pbem is fun but doesnt allow a quick enuf turn around to really teach things to your opponent.

However, PBEM is the only situation where I play coaches who are miles better than me. I think I am one of the best coaches in my league. For example, on Saturday, I won a tabletop game 1-0 (dark elves v chaos dwarves), but I was convinced I was playing terribly (and rolling pretty badly too) but my opponent did not make me pay for these mistakes.

there is definitely a major difference int eh quality of play between online and tabletop leagues... while i realize some of you out there may be in tabletop leagues with good players, i have only had a handful of really sharp coaches in my locals over the years, wherever i've lived...

i think it's the fact that those who play online are the more intensive fans of the game, as opposed to the casual players... people who love bloodbowl for one reason or another, often because they are just good at it...

What format does the league take is it on specific days of the week or matches arranged. I 'd be prepared to take the trip up now and again to get a few matches in. If its in Brum, its only about a 20 min drive for me

Perhaps, but on the one hand, I don't have whole weekends to spare... I could only do a tournament that ran on a single Saturday. On the other, I don't see how a tournament will help since I can hardly expect an opponent who humiliates me to pause during a match to help me play better, can I?

We actually all live all over the place - I'm live in Birmingham, the others live in Oxford, Cambridge, Buckingham, and Watford. We play every first Saturday of the month, and last Saturday's was held in Oxford.

This doesn't really seem at all convenient for you at all McDeth. Unless you have a league and I come down to you?

(It's 45 mins from my house to UCW, which is where my wife works. Getting to Worcester is far quicker than getting to a monthly games day with the only other BB players I know!)

Well, there are two of us... dunno how to find anymore in a reasonable vicinity of Worcester.

Mind you, I found the people I play D&D with (in Wolverhampton) via a newsgroup, so the internet seems the obvious way to go.

And the game between the Pharaonics and the Headhunters has got off to a particularily bloodthirsty start. Perhaps inspired by the hordes of pirates brandishing cutlasses at the Jolly Roger stadium, 3 competitors already lie bleeding and dead by the sidelines. With the very first contact of the game, a chaos dwarf blocker was stretchered from the field with a fractured leg,and as the humans prepared to move the ball downfield, a hobgoblins hand was smashed as a blitzer cleared the way for Huni, the scorer of last weeks winning TD. He now stands only a few paces from the EZ, but Menkaure, his lineman teamate, lies dead on the sideline, his only hope for redemption that Huni will post the opening score. Who knows what cost in blood this game will take before the final result is known.....

oh, and for whoever it was who thought they had a rough time of it at memorial park last game, we've had both kickoffs affected by "ghosts" so far... i think it's what's got my mino into such a frenzy...

"ghosts" by the way is definitely going to be fixed next season, i'll be making it a single die roll and both teams remove the same number of players... i may also have the pitch invasion affect the identical number of players on each side as well...

which reminds me to remind you to keep those thoughts on aspects of the kickoff tables that you're unhappy with or just have an idea of a way to make better coming at me...
