LOS guys

Post by Mortalman »

Hi all,

I'm thinking about my defensive setups and there's one point I'm never sure on. In most defences, even with a tough team, you want to put 3 guys on the LOS to reduce the number of blocks the opposition can make. I have 2 questions:

1) What is the advantage to having them shoulder to shoulder vs spaced out? Does it make a difference?

2) If you have muscle players, is it better to put them on the line and try to soak up damage or elsewhere to prevent blitzers sneaking around your line? I'm not so much thinking about Big Guys, who are usually so stupid it's best to just let them sit on the line and take a beating, but other players like my BO blockers.

Well placing them next to each other is better if they have guard so they can assit each other. Placing them out means they take up more room and if they only get pushed then its more spread out tackle zones.

you can put your black orcs wide to stop other playes from taking the wide route. If he goes inside your black orcs will have enough movement to move in and annoy the crap out of your opponent!

always go for spread out if your opponent has guard!

What if I have guard on a BO with block? Should I keep the LOS guys packed up with him in the middle?

It all depends on who you are playing.

If its another bashy team then clump them together - if they are spread out its easier for him to isolate and remove them.

If its a fast team then spead out as he probably doesn't want to get involved in a big punch up - but you do.

It also depends on how you set up your other players - spread out LoS means you have to cover the whole line, clumping means you may be able to risk a central hole.

Cool, thanx for the advice. Despite what you said at the end there, I'm tempted to change the plan against my two biggest rivals. One plays lizardmen, and I feel that spreading out the saurus is the key to exposing the vulnerable skinks (plus it keeps the blasted skink with guard to a minimum effectiveness!) and therefore winning. The other has a human team, and he loves to put the boot in if you give him a chance. "Fair play" you cry, "if he wants a fight, give him one" but he ain't dumb, I've found he'll fight a bit, then play cagey and score on turn 6 giving me limited time to equalise. Against such all rounders I'm more tempted to put strength he'll find hard to match on the line, force a passing play and at the worst I get 6 turns to equalise!

You have to use different tactics against lizards. If you have decent armor, you can lock up a basic Saurus by putting a lineman on him. The opposing coach can't free him up unless he's willing to use his blitz there. If you go into this kind of full attack mode, you can isolate his ballcarrying skink and make life difficult on him. Watch out for Saurii with break tackle, though. They require special attention.
