Illegal setup

Post by duff »

As the administrator I had one I wasn't sure about. One player had set up with 4 player in one wide zone and only 2 on LOS. This was only noticed after kick off roll when he was about to move his turn marker.

I said they should do the whole kick off again but other options included
-Illegal procedure and turnover.
-He got away with it, play on!

Of course it happoned with opne turn to go, the chance at a one ture TD to let a badly hurt team pull ahead and avoid a 3rd half

re-do setup. Formaly it's not an illegal procedure but it is still strictly against the rules.

last time something like this happened for me we agreed to set up again and my opponent got an extra reroll for the half.

That sounds fair. A good solution.

we just redeploy, and the attacker (if the one that made a mistake was the defender) may set up again too.

actually we just redo the KO procedure

What about 12 men (or more) on the pitch not being noticed until turn 2?

We've had that happen. It sucks but what we came up with was, count out the players, roll a d12, that player's gone. Doesn't matter how vital he was or not, if he had the ball, was prone, whatever. He's gone.

Yep we've had the same, we also randomly selected one player and get him of the field. If the drive just started 1 turn and then it's noticed we redo the KO procedure, if we find it out a few turns later we the random slection thingy!!!

Definately not a standard rules question but I will tell you what we do (in my local league).

First, both players are responsible for seeing such problems at set up, so if the opposing coach forgot, then I just let them play on. I'm sure there are games where people simply miss this sort of thing for an entire drive.

If it's something where there's still a rule being broken (like 12 men on the field) then we randomly remove one.

At the end of the day it's really just trying ot make both sides feel like justice was served.

ECBBL has house ruled illegal set up as an IP (i.e. you lose a TRR, if you don't have any left you got away with it).

If there are too many players on the pitch your opponent gets to choose which one to remove (and if he's got the ball he drops it and it would be a turnover).
