I need some one to play test these ideas i've had. or any ideas to change them. The refs would need stats, but i recon just taking basic lineman stats for each race would surfice. maybee minus 1AV! I'm sure 2nd edition coverd ref rules, i think these are similar, any coments or new ideas. I'm going to make up some star ref players to go allong with it!
The are many referees in the Blood Bowl world. Most have the short lived career as Blood Bowl players, whilst others can be as famous as Star Players!
To represent this before a game roll a D6;
1. stick to the rules, all fouls spotted, no coach can argue calls, every turn the opposing player may (he doesn't have to) roll a D6 before one action, on the roll of a 1, the ref calls an illegal procedure on the moving team.
on the roll of a 2-4, the turn carries on as normal.
on a roll of 5-6 a random player on the other team is sent off!
2-5. Normal bloodbowl ref
6. let that one slip buy, the ref loves the carnage on the field, all fouls are let go, if there are no armour rolls broken in a turn, the ref gets bored and will block one random player!
Player arguing calls! (otherwise known as beating the ref around the head)
Block the referee, if he isn’t injured the player is automaticly sent off, the coach may not argue the call.
i know it needs more work so any ideas are welcom!
thanks

That means that 1/3 games are played with either of the extreme coaches. Far too much, IMO. You should probably put them on par with the weather table which gives a 1/6 chance of some other weather than nice.
Personally, although having random refs affect the game would definitely be fun and whacky (if the rules would be developed further), I have grown to dislike having rules that have such a tremendous impact on the game. It's better to keep the game a one-on-one match between the coaches instead of making it a menage-a-trois between the coaches and a variety of random event tables. Just IMO.

I agree totaly with you, as it would affect the game, but then the 'we was robed' slogan would be great!
I think the ref rules could only be used for one off games!
I'll fiddle with ideas till i come up with something that is fun, or unfair as the case may be for referees!
One of the best things about bloodbowl is that you mess around with rules and ideas!
I've got a great idea of two teams not worried about the other team on the pitch but the blood firsty/rule freak referee thay've got to share the pitch with.
