All-Star 'Pro Bowl'

Post by Grundgen »

Hello board!...Well, long time reader here...I figured I would finally glean from your knowledge directly! I did several 'searches' but came out empty handed...I was wondering if any of you had any luck in running some sort of 'pro-bowl' or end of season star player match. I'd like our season to end with an extravaganza of violence and flair. The idea is that each coach must send his best _________(fill in position here) It would have to be a multiple coach game...with representative coaches from the North and South divisions (for example)...I guess the main question is, has anyone had any luck in running a game with more than one coach 'sharing' a turn? There would be an issue with team turns being too short possibly, but would it work if each coach took turns with thier players during their team/division turn? Part of the mayhem could be how well the coaches coordinated together. As for the guidelines governing how many of each player-type a division could field is still yet to be determined. Any thoughts? Insanity? Grooviness? Thanks!

here is how we ve done it here.
1-
Our league is divided in 4 divisions:
EST-WEST-CENTRALE-SOUTH
with 4 teams in each (3 sometimes)

2Divisions per team for the 'Pro Ball' Est-West against Central-South for example (so 8 teams against 8). (try to make it the more balanced with the teams you have in each of them.

2-
A long the season, i am doing players stats:
Best Scorer, More violent, Best Thrower, Best overall

For the 'Pro ball':
The best scorer, the moreviolent...are going into the pro bowl.
So you already have 4 slots full.

*We have to reserve 1 slot for each team (i will explain it after part 4)

3-
Now, you take the Overall SPP ranking(of the actual tourny/season only!!!):
And take the best players for each team to full the team to 8.

For example: I f your Est-Ouest Team have already the best scorer,
You will take the 7 best players from Est or West in the overall Ranking to go to 8.

4-
Then each player pick up one of his best players (i mean if you have 2 top players in your team at the same level (50+spp) then you choose the one you will send if he is not already picked up.

With this system ,you will arrive to 16.

If for example you only have 6 team in a Est-West, then you will have to full the team (with the overal ranking to 10) and then each team choose one of is player....

i hope it was clear enough.
This system
-show the best players of the actual season and some of the best players that are in the league.
-able to have a player from each team that played in the season.

In this tourny, we re doing a season and then a cup for the finals.
All the players stats are made only during the season(not the finals-cup).

any though?

"To night, in a rare treat, the most famous players in the whole of the NAF get together in a charity game for the Retired Blood Bowlers Malevolent Fund... it's the great all star game - the Hyperbowl!" -- BB Star Players book

Previous discussion on this topic gave some ideas:

- No Team Re-rolls, instead give all players Pro for the duration of the match.
- No long term injuries (assume all SIs and deaths are healed after the match).
- Give all teams lending players for the match a small benefit (like FF+1).

I'm sure you can find the whole thread by searching the website.

We did the very same thing - 4 players a side... It got interesting in that each move was decided on by committee! :o

Very nice site Deathwing...the position ideas help bring some needed balance! Does the idea of two coaches 'sharing' a turn sound too tough to pull of?

Did the game drag down too much? My idea was to try some sort of rotation where coach A and B were from the south division...each turn A would activate one of his players...carry out an action...then it would be coach B's turn to use a player...it could be fun to coordinate passing plays and blocks while counting on your teammates rolls...Cheetos and Dice would surely fly! :P
-Of course after a turnover, it would be coach C and D's turn to flex their Northly muscle! (after much thought, a large 4 coach goblin extraveganza would be great fun)

The position ideas were something we kicked around on Blood Bowl Central some years ago, I can't remember who else was present but Zombie was quite active, credit where it's due.
Sharing turns? Hmm...could be a giggle but much easier to alternate turns.

Well is your "Big Game" between the winners of the Regions, or is it between the two best teams.

(Now I am just thinking out loud)

But why don't you have the two head coaches of those teams be the Head coaches of the Pro teams, but the other coaches move the players that belong to them.

So Coach A is the head coach, and Coach B is an "assistant coach." When the head coach wants to move the Wood elf catcher, that belongs to coach B, he "activates" it and then Coach B decides the path, or whatever.

Coach A could want the catcher to give an assist to another player, but Coach B decides "Hell no, he is getting the hell out of that danger"

It could make for some interesting games, in which the "pro" players personalities, (which they keep because the coach who owns them moves them) keep them from meshing together as a team.

It could also lead to some interesting arguments:
"Hey move your BOB over there and put some tacklezones on that guy."
"Hell no Scratchmog Fangchipper doesn't put tacklezones up, he is using the turn blitz on that guy."
"NOOOOOoooo...!!"

Basically the "Head Coach" only decides the order in which the players move, and controls his own guys, but has little control over what most of them do.

well, i have foprgotten that part, only 2 BG per team, a max for each positionnal players.
2 RR.
Injuries remains after the game!
Only one Apo per team, and you HAVE to use it on the First SI (Niggling or worst).
We dont do any TR diff for that game.

Last year, only one player got a bad injury...a niggling for one og my gobbos! i already used my apo for a death...
It was a really fun game.
Me and a friend againt Trambi and Benja!

The REBBL PBeM League had a Pro-game, Nuffle vs. Amorial(sp?) conferences. Each team put forward one player, and each coach played on turn. All Inj counted as BH.
Tchatt posted a link for it somewhere, if you have access to PBeM tool, you can watch the game (4-3 victory).

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.
