Week 5 CD team report

Post by MechD »

Hey guys,

Week 5 just came to a close, so I thought I would go ahead and post my weekly report :)

Game 1: Vs Dark Elves

First game against a Dark Elf team, so I wasn't to sure what to expect, but I had heard that he had a +1 Str DE lineman somewhere. He got a pair of handicap rolls against me and got the "virus" result which didn't help him as I don't have any NI players yet, and then he also got the free RR for the game result, which was cool. He won the toss and elected to receive the ball, I kicked it off and he proceeded to attempt to overload the left side of the field with guys, but instead of doing it in my half, he does this in HIS half of the field. I shifted my defensive line and pinned him against the left sideline, and procedded to bash until he forked over the ball to one of my Hobgoblins, who proceded to get a TD a turn before the half ended. Second half was more of the same, a BC scored a TD, and I managed to kill off that pesky +1str DE lineman (just unnatural for an elf to be strong). End result was a 2-0 victory score wise, and a 5-0 victory on the casualty table. One of my CD's picked up Guard, and I got more cash! :D

Second Game: Vs Norse
Woohoo! Another game against a team I hadn't played yet so far. Once again he elected to receive the ball, but I got a Blitz!! result on the kick off, and was off to the races. First half ended with out score, but the Second half was mine, as by that point I had removed a great deal of his team from the turf. End score 3-0 victory, with a 7-0 deficit in cas. Couple quick thoughts, playing a team that has Block everywhere is very different that playing teams who only have a couple blockers, and frenzy is something I need to be more careful about, as I almost lost my +AG centaur into the crowd! :o

So the current standing of my team is as follows:
5x CD's w/ Guard
1x CD w/no skills
2x HG's w/ Dirty Player
2x HG's w/ no skills
1x BC w/ Block, Break Tackle, and a skill earned against the norse
1x BC w/ +1 AG, Block
1x Troll w/ no skills

4 Team RR's, FF 12, TR 175, Apothecary, with 170K in the treasury..

First Question: Any suggestions on what to spend the cash on? I was thinking to grab a 5th TRR, and then grab two more HG's once I get 10K more to round out my roster at 15, then start saving money so I can free booting star players/wizards.

Second Question: What skill to take for my first BC? The +ag centaur is my ball carrier, so I was thinking that maybe Strip Ball would be a nice skill for my defensive BC to pick up...any thoughts?

Thanks again guys :D

PS. My CD team can finally claim first place in the league un contested, as the Dwarf team that was co-claiming the spot finally lost to the Undead team 2-1 :D

Strip Ball rocks if there aren't that many sure hands players in the league. If there are a lot of Sure Hands players go Tackle. Whichever you take, take the other on next upgrade.

As far as purchases go, sounds like you are hitting the nail on the head.

Good looking team btw.

I'd go for the Strip Ball too ... imagine your bull centaur entering a net of elves dodging at 2+ and have a go at the ball carrier .. something to tell the grandsons!!

With this in mind, and if you get some doubles, you'd get Side Step. You side step out of their blocks, and dodge away the turn after, for another blitz on the ball carrier ... oh now your grandsons will be entertained!!

Tackle can be fun too ... but your grandsons would preffer the playstation!

Strip Ball or tackle on the BC.

Maybe Mighty Blow instead?

Answer #1: DO NOT spend the money on more hobbos. All you're going to do is have more hobbos that can steal MVPs from the dwarves and BCs. If you want a few more hobbos for the playoffs, buy them then, but definitely not now. Your Dwarves, Troll, and BCs aren't getting injured much at all - certainly not more than 2-3 per game, right? Any extra hobbos you buy will just sit on the bench.

Answer #2: Definitely tackle or strip ball. Defense wins championships and popping the ball loose is the key to defense in blood bowl. If there is a bunch of sure hands in your league, take tackle. In fact, I'd probably take tackle, because then it's harder for catchers to dodge away from the guy on their turn.

The team is shaping up nicely. Well done!

Hey guys,

Thanks for the replies! :)

In reply to the answers for #1: I hadn't thought about the fact that the silly hobbos would possibly steal the MVP's...That's a good point, okay, I will buy a 5th RR and then sit on my cash until I think I need it for something fun..

In reply to the answers for #2: I am thinking I will go with Strip Ball. Very few teams have anybody with Sure Hands that the team didn't start with (normally 1 thrower), and this will let me pop the ball loose more often than Tackle will (that and I already have 6 chaos dwarfs with Tackle on the field). I certainly think that Tackle will be his 4th skill if he lives that long.. On the question of skills, I have one HG w/ Dirty Player who picked up the MVP award recently and is about 3 points from getting a second skill..any suggestions? I was thinking to throw Block on him, just so he has a bit more reliability as a hitter, but I am certainly open to suggestions.

Thanks for all your help and advice guys, I have been very happy with how my team has been shaping up :D

Later guys!
