what would you pay for sprues?

Post by Lucien Swift »

if, theoretically speaking, of course, some schmuck were to create a few different accessory sprues which could be used to convert any old miniature into a fantasy football player, something along the lines of a three-sprue line consisting of:

a medium player (humans, elfs, etc) sprue with:
1 generic football helmet (full-obscured face cage facemask for use as any race, easy headswap conversion)
2 clenched fists in gloves
1 right hand in glove with football
1 right hand in glove catching
2 shoulderpads

a bigger player (orcs, dwarfs, etc) sprue with:
1 generic big football helmet
2 big clenched fists in gloves
2 big shoulder pads
2 thigh pads

a sideline accessory sprue with:
4 pom-poms
1 coach's ballcap
1 clipboard
1 loose football
1 medic's bag
1 giant foam finger

assuming these were available, and each cost the same, what would you be willing to pay for this product? somebody might be trying to decide if it's economically feasable...

voted "no more than $2.50" but the real answer is probably about £2 each seems reasonable.

Sounds promising... good to hear that someone at least considers whether this would be economically feasible...

I voted up to 2 money units... I would happily pay 2 euros for one sprue.

Could the guy considering this also consider adding a pointing glove hand to the sprues that would help alot. thx! And maybe replace the foam finger in the accessory sprue with a megaphone, a beer mug or something else ... foam fingers are the easiest to do things with greenstuff (and they are extremly American, nobody in Europe uses them).

I think i'd even pay more than $2.50 for that, 3 or even 4 does not seem out of the world, but starts to be expensive.

Heck, i just paid 5 Euros ($5.80) for some skulls on a sprue

I agree with Indigo - I'd pay a couple of quid (maybe £3 depending upon what the stuff on the sprue looked like)

Presumably these sprues would be metal?

I'd be willing to pay up to $3 for sprues like this, to be honest. This would be a great idea!

Phil, you need the at least $5 and probably more category... :D

seriously, the time it takes to convert some of this stuff with green stuff makes the prospect very appealing indeed..

I wrote to Heresy asking for this a year ago, but Andy has been too busy sculpting life size demons I think....

Stop reading this crap and get sculpting!!

but i already have a foam finger finished from an earlier unreleased project :P

that said, none of these sprues are "set in stone, but just initial thoughts.... i doubt i would do too many more items on them, but if there was some swapping around in a finished product, you shouldn't be surprised...

Hey Phil I would be willing to pay 3 or 4 dollars. I would also like a pointing hand, maybe one fist and one pointing.

Another question will each sprue be teh set price? or is it for a set?

per sprue... they'd be available seperately...

so, you want pointing hands and megaphones... anything else before i actually decide to sit down and sculpt anything?

The beer mugs would be nice for fan accessories as well. Something like this:

How about a secret weapon sprue?
Chainsaws hands, Bomb hands, Dagger hands, ...

...beer mugs and hot dogs (and the foam finger to be honest) sound like the makings of a "fan sprue" which i could consider doing if the player and sideline sprues work well enough.... a "foreign objects" sprue would be it's own item as well, no room for that much variety on the first offerings... i can put maybe 7-9 individual bits on any one sprue, that's it... this isn't a big plastic sprue, but a little metal one.... can't be too much longer than a model usually is tall, and has to have part radiating off a single central spine...

So to recap what we've said so far to help out Lucien:

Medium player sprue:
1 generic football helmet (full-obscured face cage facemask for use as any race, easy headswap conversion)
2 clenched fist in gloves (left and right)
1 left hand pointing
1 right hand in glove with football
1 right hand in glove catching
2 shoulderpads

a bigger player (orcs, dwarfs, etc) sprue with:
1 generic big football helmet
2 big clenched fists in gloves
2 big shoulder pads
2 thigh pads

a sideline accessory sprue with:
4 pom-poms
1 coach's ballcap
1 clipboard
1 loose football
1 medic's bag
1 megaphone

a fan sprue:
Hot Dog
2 Beer Stiens
Giant Foam Finger
Cigar
Pennant

Weapon Sprue:
Poisoned Dagger
Pogo Stick
Ball and Chain
Bomb
Blunderbuss
Chainsaw

The Weapon Sprue I'd be more than willing to pay $5 a piece for as I'm constantly buying $6 figures to cut up just to get the ONE weapon ... let alone all 6 on a sprue.

I'd be more interested in a sprue that was mainly heads, with a few open, pointing or ball carrying hands. I can do without pads and wouldn't want to need 16 sprues to convert a whole team. Loose footballs would be alright too, but I doubt I'd bother with any coaching or fan bits.

Something like:
5 heads
ball carrying hand
pointing hand
catching hand

At $2.50 (ie. $7.50 for pretty much a whole team's worth) that would be pretty good.

Edited to add

A weapons sprue would be interesting as well.

mind you, if someone did do an illegal implements sprue down the road, it might not be quite so _specifically_ the same gizmos as the run-of-the mill bloodbowl variety... too close to an IP intrusion. that sprue sounds good, but would a difficult one to impliment...
