Freebooting BGs

How about the idea of just freebooting BGs?? Stars and wizards, who could be bought as a regular member of a team are now only freebootable. It would solve a lot of the problems that people see with BGs (ie they are unbalancing to the game, etc). It doesn't really make any sense the way things have been going, trying to make BGs undesireable to take on a team, so much so that some people are saying why have BGs at all?. If you can only freeboot them, you don't need neg traits or to lower the ST or raise the cost. Yes they can't be developed, but then BGs are there to add muscle to a team (ie give more bashiness) so as long as the stats for each BG makes them a reasonable bashing machine (which the starting stats minus the neg traits seem to be) then they would be ok. The problems with certain skills getting nerfed seems to have originated with them being too powerfull when taken by BGs, freebooting would solve this problem as well. Just make the price for freebooting at least equal to the real worth of a player, no price breaks (of course this is halved) just to make sure that a team will have to think about freebooting a BG first before they do it.
Of course then the access for BGs would have to be changed, go up instead of being resticted as is happening now, and ogres would probably be the most accessable. Would this lead to everyone having an ogre on their team, I don't think so, I think you will see fewer BGs around as they would only be freebooted when necessary. I think freebooting BGs would fit the fluff better as well.
Thinking that this might work best with neg winnings rules so that it's not just the high TR teams that would freeboot BGs. Any comments?

As I have many times said, I love TTM. Had some memorable moments with it.

Hard to say yet. I'll have to think carefully whether TTM is a reasonable option with trolls. If it isn't, I might vote for freebooting the big ones. With freebooting I could use ogres and TTM at least every now and then.

If TTM is fun and reasobable with trolls, I'd propably vote no.

BTW, what about goblin teams? They suck now, but with freebooting they would be really crappy indeed. Dunno, whether that is good or bad

Gobbos and 'flings are supposed to be joke teams, your not supposed to win with them anyway, so I don't really care too much about the arguement that it might make them worse (they're supposed to be bad).

I never really had a prob with BG, despite the fact, that they favour the lucky players who always pass their bonehead-roll.

Making BGs only available by freebooting starts to make BGs look very similar to the already existing freebootable-only Star Players. You could also think of it as adding a whole lot of not-that-great Star Players. IMO, if you don't allow BGs as permanent additions to a roster, then you might as well eliminate them completely in lieu of the Star Players.

I don't agree with that, most people don't even freeboot SP (mainly because they are too good and take away SPPs). BGs are freebooted when you need the extra muscle, not for extra scoring ability (like a Griff), so would be freebooted more than SPs (who are problably only FBed in tournaments and playoff games). Also you can only have one Morg on the field, so people would go with the generic BG ogre than the SP as they wouldn't have to remove it if the other player fielded one (as you would if both players FBed Morg and would have to play without him).
