First off, a player and the coach for my next project, an Ogre team. The 40K grotbox offers about four to five nice to convert players. As you see, I use the elbowplate of a fantasy blackorc quite often, since it fits so well. The guys won`t seem to big, as long as you leave off the helmets. But honestly, there is just too many cool bits to not use ´em.

Since I love greenskins I do know enough about their background to know that they are fairly superstitious and it fits the background of a sportsman as well. Therefore all my greenskincoaches have a lucky motivationsquigg.

Converting is always a great load of fun. You get to individualize your team very much and you have the opportunity to give your players character an depth. While converting my minis I absolutely always think about a small backgroundstory for each player. This guy for example is the fourth incarnation of this character, the orcish blitzer Thrat the Threat. I also have to mention, that I try to avoid buying new stuff as long as I still have the bits that fit my wishes. Most of the time it pays off to put a little more work into your minis and use some of the leftovers you have.

When you do conversions, another important fact is, that the overall picture has to fit. A starplayer can stand out, that is his role, but as you build your team, you want to think about, how the team should look in the end and if it would look odd to have to many different models in the team. A Rackhamwerewolf and GW Wilhelm Chaney could be two werwolves on a necromantic team, but would probably not fit too well.
A balanced look on a team is of importance

If you still wish to implement other minis, use background storys. A khemri team from Numas could have two lving models as blitzers, since living and undead coexist in this city. So why not resemble that on their team? Still, if you do so, make sure the blitzers look fairly alike, so that positions are clear and so they look fitting in the team.
This guys here is, believe it or not, the coach of my undead team. When a fan once threw a rock at his head the only logic explanaition to him for still being alive was, that he must be undead. In orcish manner of course, he doesn`t care about the fact that he`s still drinking, feasting, smoking, and so on. And just like ANY greenskincoach, he has a motivationsquig.

Another way of making it work, is a strong colorscheme. In this example I converted an old mummy to be part of my undead team, but while building, I realized, that the old mummy wasn`t really good looking right next to Ramtut, which I used as my other mummy. The only way to make it work, was to use the same colors and be consistent in the colorscheme.

So that`s it for now. If you want to take a closer look at my undead team, you can do that at the german tabletop-forum. Of course, even thou it`s a german forum, you can still post in english. I guess we`re all on the same page languagewise here

You can do that here: http://www.tabletopwelt.de/forum/showth ... p?t=146670
