O could go into any of the squares there except for F, since he is standing there. First O must decide where he is sidestepping and then F would follow up and take the second frenzied block (unless this was PBEM).
But really, there wouldn't be alot of incentive for O to go anywhere on the first block except to a sideline square, since this would ensure the second frenzied block would place F on the sideline, while O could use sidestep to get one square off the sideline (and even pull the old switheroo, leaving F on the sideline and O directly to the right, ready to push F into the crowd on the next turn...how's that for mean.)

you're assuming F is pushing O, right? well, what the hell is x doing here?
how about:
| . .
|O.F.

i think that's the diagram relating correctly to your question.
O gets to choose any square they'd like to go to, instead of out of bounds, but they still must choose BEFORE F decides to follow up. this is the case w/ ANY instance of a pushback, regardless of whether or not they have side step. on a pushback of any kind, the square the player is pushed to is designated before the follow-up. side step merely allows the pushed player to choose any unoccupied square adjacent to them.

Can't pull a switcheroo since O gets pushed before F follows up. You're gonna need another player to get F into the crowd.High & Mighty wrote:.But really, there wouldn't be alot of incentive for O to go anywhere on the first block except to a sideline square, since this would ensure the second frenzied block would place F on the sideline, while O could use sidestep to get one square off the sideline (and even pull the old switheroo, leaving F on the sideline and O directly to the right, ready to push F into the crowd on the next turn...how's that for mean.)

Sure you can:snotsngrots wrote: Can't pull a switcheroo since O gets pushed before F follows up. You're gonna need another player to get F into the crowd.
Start (O has sidestep; F has frenzy and is blocking)
|1.2.3
|4.O.F
|7.8.9
First block of O
|O.2.3
|4.F.6
|7.8.9
Second frenzied block of o
|F.O.3
|4.5.6
|7.8.9
So O is now in position to block F off the pitch in the next turn.

This is why you never ever try to push a Sidestepper off of the field. Because it is really hard to do
The only way to do it is if all available squares ar occupied, like so:
X - Random Player
O- Sidestepping Victim
F- Frenzied Blocker
|
|XX
|OF
|XX
|
The only available option is for the sidestepper to visit the crowd
Blood

IMO this is one of the main benefit of sidestep, it allows players to use the sideline squares with impunity where most players tend to avoid them.

The short answer is "no", but it is a qualified "no" because there are odd ways of interpreting the question which could justify the answer "yes".
